The American people have been loud & clear in their demand for energy independence while Washington ignores the dire consequences for failing that mission. I really, really dislike these people. Politicians arent in the back pockets of "Big Oil", they seem to be held hostage by the misguided/alarmist Environmentalists. Plus, "Big Govt" would like to see us all at the mercy of Mass Transportation. There is absolutely no logical reason for this other than politics and foreign influences. Former Oil Exec Predicts $5-a-Gallon Gas by 2012, Energy Shortages by Decades End The former president of Shell oil is predicting that the United States will face 1970s-style energy shortages and rationing by the end of the decade, accusing the federal government of turning its back on the countrys domestic oil supply. The dire prediction comes as energy analysts toss out a string of frightening predictions about the rising price of oil in the short term. Oil has topped $90 a barrel, and JP Morgan Chase & Co. earlier this month predicted oil could hit $120 a barrel by the end of 2012. John Hofmeister offered a more aggressive estimate, saying Americans could be paying $5 a gallon in two years. "It is pure politics that keeps us from drilling more of our own resources," he said. The Interior Department announced earlier this month that it would not pursue any new drilling off the East Coast or in the eastern Gulf of Mexico for at least seven years. Santa Was in Prison and Jesus Got the Death PenaltyAs more than 3,000 Americans sit on death row, we revere the birth of a godly man who was arrested, ?tried,? sentenced, and put to death by the state. The Passion is the story of an execution, and the Stations of the Cross trace the path of a Dead Man Walking. Less well known is the fact that Saint Nicholas, the early Christian saint who inspired Santa Claus, was once a prisoner, like one in every 100 Americans today. Though he was beloved for his kindness and generosity, Nicholas acquired sainthood not by giving alms, but in part by performing a miracle that more or less amounted to a prison break. Of course, that level of sensitivity is not applied when it comes to slamming Christianity during the Christmas season. On Dec. 16, The Washington Post paid tribute to another suburban school in northern Virginia, McLean High School, for warming hearts during the season with "The Laramie Project." This play is a political assault, using transcripts of real-life interviews by gay activists out to blame Americas religious people for the beating death of homosexual college student Matthew Shepard in 1998. The McLean High students putting on this play are candid. They are trying to walk people away from the Bible. Making people "have conversations" is presented as glorious. But it wouldnt be a constructive conversation if students were trying to convert people to Christianity -- only when you try to convert people away from it. Federal Regulators Wage War on Christmasclipped by: n2soonersIts worth noting not only that the War on Christmas has continued, but now federal regulators have joined the wrong side Various outlets have reported throughout December that regulators from the Federal Reserve told privately-owned banks that they can?t have Christmas displays A bank in Oklahoma City displayed Bible verses and had a cross on the tellers? counter. Some bank workers also wore ?Merry Christmas? buttons. Fed regulators visiting the bank said that these displays violated Regulation B, and ordered them removed A similar situation is unfolding in Nebraska. The American Exchange Bank of Lincoln has also been told to discontinue religious displays The Constitution is firmly on the side of these banks and private citizens in the midst of this increasingly anti-Christian bias, we see the inexcusable action of federal regulators telling private banks and citizens that they cannot freely celebrate Christmas No federal order or regulation can trump the U.S. Constitution December 2010 Blizzard Timelapse Video.clipped by: EddieIsSteadyDecember 2010 Blizzard Timelapse A timelapse over the span of an evening demonstrates just how insane East Coast blizzards have been this last week. But from eating less meat to requesting smaller portions, often we can cut back on our consumption without giving up our guilty pleasures completely. Heck, it can even be a great way to rediscover and revalue things we have come to take for granted. And because going green often saves money, a recession is a great time to start reevaluating your consumption patterns. Add to that the mass of clutter and stuff that seems to just accumulate, all on its own, over the holidays, and things can get downright messy. In my own efforts to buy less, save more, and reduce the amount I consume, I?ve found myself developing a few mental habits and strategies for asking myself what I really want, and how badly. Here are a few to get you started, but I?d love to hear your suggestions. Magnesium, good for the heartclipped by: brigidaObtaining sufficient magnesium from your diet can be difficult due to poor farming practices that provide 75% lower yield of the mineral in harvested crops as compared to a century ago. The result of a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition provides evidence that women with the highest dietary intake of magnesium were 41% less likely to suffer a fatal cardiac event. The study followed more than 88,000 women over a period of 30 years and examined magnesium intake as well as other vital nutrients and lifestyle factors. Women in the highest quartile for dietary magnesium consumption experienced the highest degree of protection from sudden cardiac death. The study authors determined that 291 lives were spared in the study group for those women with the highest magnesium intake. flu Swine flu pandemic outbreak sweeping through Britain even though 70 percent were vaccinated last yearclipped by: brigida(NaturalNews) A swine flu pandemic is sweeping through Britain despite the fact that 70 percent of Britains over-65 population was vaccinated against swine flu last year. This year, that number is nearly the same -- 68.5% -- but flu vaccine proponents insist that until everyone is vaccinated, the flu will continue to infect people. What these vaccine advocates absolutely will not admit, however, is how many of those who are sick with the flu this year also got vaccinated last year. This little detail is left out of every mainstream media report on vaccines and the flu. They simply refuse to mention this all-important number, leaving readers to leap to the incorrect conclusion that only those who were not vaccinated get sick with the flu. Inspire Medical to Test Implanted Device for Sleep Apneaclipped by: kkcapricornAccording to the National Institutes of Health, about 12 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea The most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). During sleep, the airway collapses and the blockage causes shallow breathing or breathing pauses. One common cause is a relaxation of the tongue that causes it to cover air passages. Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes and often occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour. Untreated sleep apnea can increase the risk of high blood pressure, arrhythmias, heart attack, heart failure, stroke, obesity and diabetes. Due to inadequate sleep, sleep apnea can also increase the chance of having a work-related or driving accident. Funny thing is, now that they have lost the house, being able to ram everything through the senate while completely shutting out the minority wont do them any good. And since they are very likely to lose the senate in 2012 they would just be giving the republicans more power. They are nothing more than a bunch of short sighted, power hungry hypocrites. The National Journal reports that Senate Democrats are laying the groundwork to chip away at the filibuster on January 5, 2011. They are going to push the idea that a simple majority of the Senate can abolish the filibuster rules, or radically change the rules, in a new Congress. All Democratic senators returning next year have signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., urging him to consider action to change long-sacrosanct filibuster rules. The letter, delivered this week, expresses general frustration with what Democrats consider unprecedented obstruction and asks Reid to take steps to end those abuses. They are angry that they could not railroad through the Senate legislation imposing Card Check, a Public Option for ObamaCare and Climate Change. Now it is pay back time. Liberals are going to destroy the tradition of extended debate and a free amendment process in the Senate if they can pull off this procedural coup. The more things you cut out, the more time you?ll have for what matters. You will do something history making in 2011 by making a space for it. Here are three kinds of activities you should cut at work. Top Ten Ways the Right Will Wreck the Recoveryclipped by: tabseyclippers remarks: No surprises. Conservatives have a legislative agenda for 2011 that will hurt your ability to get or keep a job, your neighborhoods ability to recover from the recession and this countrys ability to regain its footing in the global economy. To keep conservatives from enacting policies that will kill a nascent economic recovery, progressives will have to organize against these top 10 economy killers. 1. Repeal of Health-Care Reform 2. Small earthquake rattles southern Quebec![]() A small earthquake measuring 3.1 in magnitude struck in southern Quebec on Monday morning, local residents reported. The temblor occurred in an area near Buckingham, Que., at about 11:08 a.m. local time, Earthquakes Canada said. A 3.0-magnitude earthquake typically produces a low rumble but causes no damage to property or the environment, according to Earthquakes Canada. Mondays tremor isnt that unusual. Several minor earthquakes occur in the Ottawa and St. Lawrence valleys each year. About a dozen have been reported in southwestern Quebec in the last month, although most had a magnitude of less than two. Most earthquakes in Canada arent felt above ground, according to the Geological Survey of Canada. At a magnitude of 8.1, the largest earthquake ever recorded in Canada struck off the Queen Charlotte Islands on B.C.s coast in August 1949. The federal agency records and locates more than 4,000 earthquakes in Canada each year. Cool Our Feverclipped by: debbyskiclippers remarks: The unfortunate reality is that we have within and around our national boundaries about 3 percent of the world?s oil, but we consume about 24 percent of the world?s produced oil. So we buy what we don?t produce. The OPEC nations don?t adjust production to meet demand; they maintain it to control prices so they have relatively stable income. Oil is a strategic commodity, and we need to strip it of its strategic value. The simple fact is that oil accounts for roughly 95 percent of the energy used for transportation in the United States (and our military is the world?s single largest consumer of oil), and that?s what makes it strategic. Most significantly, in the United States fully half of all automobiles are driven fewer than 20 miles in any given day. This is an easy range for an electric-only or a plug-in-hybrid car. Given that Germany is one of the cloudiest countries in Europe, right up there with England?the sun shines for only about a third of the year?it seems crazy that it would have more solar panels per capita than any other country in the world and that it employs more than 40,000 people in the solar power indus- try. But the Germans made it happen. Within the past decade, Germany has gone from near zero to producing 8,000 megawatts (MW) of power from solar, the equivalent capacity of eight nuclear power plants in the United States. We can and should do the same?begin to invest in solar and other renewable forms of energy in America. For far too long, we have been hooked on oil, and we continue to pay a terrible price for it economically, politically, militarily, and environmentally. if the primary export of Iraq were broccoli, we wouldn?t have given a damn that Saddam Hussein was a tinpot tyrant. Return of the ?death panels?clipped by: Efrain Alvarado![]() Even in a health care bill that was unpopular, the panels that would make end-of-life recommendations in order to save the government on health care costs (said recommendations being passed on by paying doctors to share them with patients) were even more unpopular. Some people call these panels that make end-of-life recommendations ?death panels.? Others, thought the term inaccurate and prefer terms like ?end-of-life planning? and ?consultation? and ?directives.? But whatever you call these panels that make end-of-life cost-cutting recommendations that doctors are paid to pass on to patients ? the New York Times just broke a huge story: they?re ba-a-ck. And somehow they?re even more intense. Whereas the House had passed a version of the bill that would arrange for consults once every five years, now target populations will have these chats with incentivized doctors every year. Sunflower Seeds is a vast sculpture that visitors can contemplate at close range on Level 1 or look upon from the Turbine Hall bridge above. Shocker: Obama to give America back to Indians

I know that would entail giving them back the entirety of Oklahoma, among lots of other amusing things, but the supremacy of treaties is in the damn Constitution! Although I guess Article Six, with its federal supremacy clause and its no religious test talk, has always been the article that right-wingers are not particularly enthusiastic about.)

But because hysterical right-wingers are hysterical right-wingers, they are seizing on this document as yet more proof that Obama wants to forcibly redistribute all the wealth, from productive hard-working Real Americans to swarthy welfare leeches. Take it away, World Net Daily!
President Obama is voicing support for a U.N. resolution that could accomplish something as radical as relinquishing some U.S. sovereignty and opening a path for the return of ancient tribal lands to American Indians, including even parts of Manhattan.

Accounts Diverge Sharply in Night Raid Gone Wrong
clipped by: ratilfarclippers remarks: What is certain is that a shootout at the headquarters of the Afghan Tiger Group, a supplier of vehicles to the United States military, left two Afghan guards dead and two wounded, terrified dozens of Afghan civilians, and once again raised tensions between the coalition forces and the Afghan government over such night raids, which have long been a source of friction.
An examination of the raid ? which turned up no explosives ? and the widely diverging accounts of events show the difficulties the coalition forces face in winning public opinion for such military operations. Darkness, the coalition?s military advantage in such raids, becomes an obstacle to civilians? safety and understanding of events.

Asadullah, a guard for a supplier to the American military, said no guards fired at NATO-led forces during a raid in Kabul.

Hamid Hamedi, another guard with the supplier, Afghan Tiger Group, was wounded during the NATO-led raid.
KABUL, Afghanistan ? No one seems certain who fired the first shot in the early morning hours of Dec. 24 as commandos from the coalition forces here descended on a Kabul office building in search of two cars loaded with explosives.
It may have been one of the Afghan security guards manning the gate, but two of them are dead. Or it may have been one of the commandos, or someone in the Afghan special forces accompanying them on the night raid, as they tried to prevent what they had been told was a coming Christmas Day attack against the United States Embassy.

INVENTION OF MACHINE CONVERTING PLASTIC TO OIL!
clipped by: mountainpalmclippers remarks: . The world?s oil resources are diminishing; does technology like this enable our denial of that fact, or is it a hopeful and constructive step in the right direction?
Others have concerns about pollution or toxic residue from the conversion process. Blest tells us that, if the proper materials are fed into the machine (i.e., polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene ? PP, PE, PS plastics), there is no toxic substance produced and any residue can be disposed of with regular burnable garbage. They also explain that while methane, ethane, propane and butane gasses are released in the process, the machine is equipped with an off-gas filter that disintegrates these gases into water and carbon.
Lastly, commenters from around the world are anxious to know if and where they can purchase a machine. Though the company still mainly produces larger, industrial-use machines, Blest Co. will be more than happy to hear from you. Please contact them directly at info@blest.co.jp.

Can reanimated corpses ever really be brought back to life?
In the case of the Intelsat Galaxy 15 satellite that had its "brains fried" by a solar flare nine months ago, it would appear that zombies really can be brought back from the dead.
Amazingly, the "zombiesat" is back online, communicating with mission control and theres real optimism it might be brought back to full service!
The April solar storm killed Galaxy 15s ability to communicate with Earth but left its payload fully operational, drifting uncontrolled 26,000 miles (42,000 kilometers) above Earth.
Now we await news to see whether the restart will allow the infamous Galaxy 15 to continue service. If it does, perhaps the "zombiesat" should be renamed "resurrectisat."

Back in college, while I was busy pretending that a blottoed discussion of Nietzsche over $1 beers made me an intellectual giant, my fiftysomething father, whod worked so hard to send me there, was quietly being saved. Having long eschewed any ties to his Southern Baptist upbringing, he suddenly found himself born again and on a quest to know God better.
As a longtime atheist, I was a little surprised. But eventually I came to be relieved by this development. While my friends fathers were buying flashy sports cars and exchanging their wives for models, my own father was turning inward and asking: Is there more to life than this?
I was also proud of him for becoming a student again. As I watched him pore over C.S. Lewis, Lee Strobel and even neoatheist thinkers such as Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens, I thought it amazing that he still wanted to learn something new.
The Poorhouse: Aunt Winnie, Glenn Beck, And The Politics Of The New Deal
clipped by: ratilfarclippers remarks: Aunt Winnie, whose story is preserved in the archives of the Historical Society of Washington, had been sent to an American institution that was by then some 300 years old and went by a variety of names: the county farm, the poor farm, the almshouse or, most often, simply the poorhouse. She would probably have been surprised to learn that more than a hundred years later, after the virtual eradication of elderly poverty, a powerful political movement would materialize with the mission of returning to the hands-off social policies that made the poorhouse the nations only refuge for the jobless, the aged, the infirm and the disabled.
That movements most outspoken proponent is Fox News host Glenn Beck, who doesnt merely pine for the pre-New Deal era in general, but regularly prevails upon his audience to recognize the particular genius of some of the periods presidents, whose ideologies of inaction he holds up as the American ideal.

"In the fall of 98 agent asked her to go into the almshouse, but she would not consent. During the storm in February 99, she was kept from perishing with a great effort. Every visit, and they were many, had to be made through snow up to the waist. It was during these visits that the promise was made that before another winter she would take refuge in an almshouse."
When the weather warmed, Aunt Winnie backed off her promise to go to the almshouse. The social worker started to play hardball.
"It would be hard to say which, the agent or the applicant, suffered the more, because through all this distress had sprung up a loving confidence and perfect trust that seemed cruel to deceive. Attention and assistance were withdrawn gradually."

Car hurtles off road in front of cops
clipped by: hotdoge3A car plunged about 40 metres down a bank en route to Raglan yesterday right in front of a police car.
Volunteer Raglan fire officer Kevin Holmes said he and the police were travelling back from an earlier single-vehicle crash on State Highway 23, on the Hamilton side of the Raglan deviation, when they saw the car leave the road and go down the bank on the Raglan side of the deviation about 3.30pm.
"It happened right under the highway patrols noses," Mr Holmes said. The car plunged through a fence and into several bushes and trees. The woman driver was pulled to safety by a rescue line.
Mr Holmes said the woman ? who was shaken but not injured ? was lucky not to have been seriously hurt. "Had those trees not been there and shed gone straight into the paddock, it could have been worse."
The woman was driven home to Raglan in the police car. Mr Holmes said the driver from the first crash ? just before 3pm ? was also driven back to Raglan in the patrol car. The road was wet at the time.

The world famous ?Kaikoura Lights? UFO sightings of December 1978: In late December 1978, a spectacular series of sightings occurred over South Island skies. These sightings initially began on December 21 when the crew of a Safe Air Ltd cargo plane observed strange lighted objects around their Argosy aircraft. The lights, ranging in size to that of a house, tracked them for several minutes before disappearing, and reappearing elsewhere. They appeared on Wellington ATC radar, on the aircraft radar, and were sighted by hundreds of people.
Among the hundreds of UFO sightings in New Zealand, only one was ever fully investigated.
This is the first time it has been made public.
The air force report concluded that almost all the sightings could be explained by natural but unusual phenomenon on the sea, including lights from a Japanese squid fleet or a glow from the planet Venus.

clipped by: Efrain Alvaradoclippers remarks: "For an egocentrist, lifes dilemmas and moral choices are opportunities for self-fulfillment. Egocentrism is not simply another term for selfishness. Principled conscience (to use a humanistic psychology term) is a cornerstone of egocentrism, and egocentrically conditioned people consult God and religion. It is an egocentrist truism that by our choices, we make a heaven or hell on earth. What lies beyond is not our business.
Like the cyclops of Greek mythology, the APA sees the world with one eye. It is dogmatic in the science it approves and its public policies on major moral questions such as abortion rights and the normalization of homosexuality. The APA has proceeded as if it is a proven fact that the psychological processes and moral destinations of the egocentric spiritual orientation are normative, healthy, and psychologically beneficial, and that those of the theocentric orientation and morality are non-normative, unhealthy, and psychologically negative."

A Northland man will think twice before washing his hands over the side of his boat after seeing a shark leap out of the water to bite his berley bag last week.
Richard Parker was fishing off Whangarei Heads on Thursday, only 30m from shore, when he had his close encounter.
"I was just sitting there dreaming in my boat, when a white belly came shooting up out of the depths," Mr Parker said.
"It totally left the water and splashed me as it came back down."
The shark, which Mr Parker said was as big as he was, grabbed his berley bag with bait in it to attract fish, shook it violently and ripped it in two.
"It happened so quickly and so spectacularly."
Mr Parker said he had been out fishing about twice a week and the water was teeming with fish and sharks this month.
"Ill think twice about washing my hands over the side because the water is so clear. You could lose your hands," he said.
