Former Oil Exec Predicts $5-a-Gallon Gas by 2012, Energy Shortages by Decades End

Former Oil Exec Predicts $5-a-Gallon Gas by 2012, Energy Shortages by Decades End

The former president of Shell oil is predicting that the United States will face 1970s-style energy shortages and rationing by the end of the decade, accusing the federal government of turning its back on the countrys domestic oil supply.

The dire prediction comes as energy analysts toss out a string of frightening predictions about the rising price of oil in the short term. Oil has topped $90 a barrel, and JP Morgan Chase & Co. earlier this month predicted oil could hit $120 a barrel by the end of 2012.

John Hofmeister offered a more aggressive estimate, saying Americans could be paying $5 a gallon in two years.

"It is pure politics that keeps us from drilling more of our own resources," he said.

The Interior Department announced earlier this month that it would not pursue any new drilling off the East Coast or in the eastern Gulf of Mexico for at least seven years.

WH Confirms: Obama Happy Michael Vick is Getting a Second Chance

?He of course condemns the crimes that Michael Vick was convicted of but, as hes said previously, he does think that individuals who have paid for their crimes should have an opportunity to contribute to society again,? White House deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton told ABC News.

SI.com?s Peter King reported Monday that Lurie told him, the President said, ?So many people who serve time never get a fair second chance. He was ... passionate about it. He said its never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail. And he was happy that we did something on such a national stage that showed our faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall.

President Obama has long been a big supporter of giving ex-prisoners the opportunity to redeem themselves, and has even worked on legislation to facilitate that.

?I?m a strong believer that anybody can look within themselves, find their flaws and fix them,? President Obama said to People.

Pat Robertson: Snow God?s Way of Punishing Americans Who Were Planning to Drive to Do Something Gay"

Rev. Pat Robertson sparked controversy in today?s broadcast of his 700 Club program when he claimed that God created the blizzard currently battering the Northeast ?to punish Americans who were planning to drive to do something gay.?

Additionally, he argued, God shut down major airports in the New York area ?so that people who were hoping to fly to do something of a gay nature would have to take a train or a bus, so it might be days before the gay thing they were going to do could occur.?

As for the millions of straight people in New York City who were also grounded by the bad weather, the televangelist said, ?I think God probably wonders, if these people are really straight, then what are they doing in New York??

In other blizzard-related news, the National Weather Service offered this update: ?It?s as white as a Glenn Beck rally out there.?

Ms. Foyler said that the Tea Party was hoping to replace its Christmas pageant, however, with an ambitious staging of the Book of Revelation.

Santa Was in Prison and Jesus Got the Death Penalty

As more than 3,000 Americans sit on death row, we revere the birth of a godly man who was arrested, ?tried,? sentenced, and put to death by the state. The Passion is the story of an execution, and the Stations of the Cross trace the path of a Dead Man Walking.

Less well known is the fact that Saint Nicholas, the early Christian saint who inspired Santa Claus, was once a prisoner, like one in every 100 Americans today. Though he was beloved for his kindness and generosity, Nicholas acquired sainthood not by giving alms, but in part by performing a miracle that more or less amounted to a prison break.

Someday you will be able to print your own dinner

Heres a news story that should stir deep horror in even the most jaded reader.

Cornell University is building a 3D food printer. The contraption will allow people to load vials of liquified food into the printer as inks. They can then set a recipe that will make the printer arrange the liquified ingredients in a particular way. The printer will do the rest

The engineers of the food printer are stessing its advantages. The liquid ingredients will store well and use space in the kitchen efficiently. Each person will be able to slightly tweak recipes to make cookies more flaky or meat more moist, according to their personal taste. The food printer can also pull off some neat arrangements, like embedding letters in cookies.

Whats more, if the production spreads, much of the waste that is involved with cooking - like pots and pans and the expensive transportation of odd-shaped vegetables and fruits would disappear faster than you could say Please God, no.

Scrapping ID cards is a momentous step

ID cards represented the worst of government. Abolishing them is a statement of our intent to create a fairer and freer society

So it is with enormous pleasure that I celebrate as the identity documents bill passes into law and scraps the ability of the state to gather volumes of personal biographical and biometric information from citizens without the data serving any specific purpose or benefit.

The next step is the freedom bill

The bill is likely to include provisions on DNA retention and the further regulation of CCTV. It will prevent schools taking childrens fingerprints without parental consent.

The cancellation of the ID card scheme in the Identity Documents Bill has been pushed through by the coalition government since it came to power in May this year.

Green said the government would work to securely destroy data collected under the scheme in coming months.

An Angry Anti-Christmas at School

clipped by: n2sooners
Clip Source: townhall.com
The metaphor "the War on Christmas" can be mocked

But many of our public schools have church-and-state sensitivity police with an alarming degree of Santaphobia.

Of course, that level of sensitivity is not applied when it comes to slamming Christianity during the Christmas season. On Dec. 16, The Washington Post paid tribute to another suburban school in northern Virginia, McLean High School, for warming hearts during the season with "The Laramie Project." This play is a political assault, using transcripts of real-life interviews by gay activists out to blame Americas religious people for the beating death of homosexual college student Matthew Shepard in 1998.

The McLean High students putting on this play are candid. They are trying to walk people away from the Bible.

Making people "have conversations" is presented as glorious. But it wouldnt be a constructive conversation if students were trying to convert people to Christianity -- only when you try to convert people away from it.

Federal Regulators Wage War on Christmas

clipped by: n2sooners
Clip Source: townhall.com
Its worth noting not only that the War on Christmas has continued, but now federal regulators have joined the wrong side

Various outlets have reported throughout December that regulators from the Federal Reserve told privately-owned banks that they can?t have Christmas displays

A bank in Oklahoma City displayed Bible verses and had a cross on the tellers? counter. Some bank workers also wore ?Merry Christmas? buttons. Fed regulators visiting the bank said that these displays violated Regulation B, and ordered them removed

A similar situation is unfolding in Nebraska. The American Exchange Bank of Lincoln has also been told to discontinue religious displays

The Constitution is firmly on the side of these banks and private citizens

in the midst of this increasingly anti-Christian bias, we see the inexcusable action of federal regulators telling private banks and citizens that they cannot freely celebrate Christmas

No federal order or regulation can trump the U.S. Constitution

In the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, visitors still line up to see the world?s first dolphin with an artificial fin. Fuji, now around 40 years old, lost much of her tail years ago to a necrotic disease. Around 75% of her fin had to be amputated. In 2004, Bridgestone, the largest manufacturer of tires in Japan, designed and built a replacement for Fuji made out of silicone, cushioned with foamed rubber, and reinforced with carbon fiber. The result was a life-like reproduction that was slightly smaller than the fin of a healthy adult, but still strong enough to let Fuji perform jumps and tricks in the Churaumi Dolphin Lagoon.

Chocolate May Get Better: Cacao Tree Genome Sequenced.

clipped by: EddieIsSteady
The production of high quality chocolate, and the farmers who grow it, will benefit from the recent sequencing and assembly of the chocolate tree genome, according to an international team led by Claire Lanaud of CIRAD, France, with Mark Guiltinan of Penn State, and including scientists from 18 other institutions.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/images/2010/12/101226131600-large.jpg

The team sequenced the DNA of a variety of Theobroma cacao, considered to produce the worlds finest chocolate. The Maya domesticated this variety of Theobroma cacao, Criollo, about 3,000 years ago in Central America, and it is one of the oldest domesticated tree crops. Today, many growers prefer to grow hybrid cacao trees that produce chocolate of lower quality but are more resistant to disease.

"Fine cocoa production is estimated to be less than 5 percent of the world cocoa production because of low productivity and disease susceptibility,"

consumers have shown an increased interest for high-quality chocolate made with cocoa of good quality and for dark chocolate

This is pretty amazing in a number of ways:

This should be a case about public corruption, one that involves the President since he recently signed off on more money for this settlement. There are three reasons it?s not on the front page of the NY Times.

Reason 1: There were some real victims here, black victims. That?s shameful. No one likes to linger on their shame, especially not the government. And that goes for media outlets who, by and large, are on the current administration?s side.

Reason 2: If this was investigated it would undoubtedly uncover hundreds of people who took advantage of the system, all of them black.

Reason 3: And this may be the biggest one of all. Andrew Breitbart broke the story. The liberal media is emotionally invested in Breitbart?s failure.

Living Inside A Snow Globe

There is a simplicity to winter when a snowstorm casts a shadowy blanket of calmness onto the woods around our nests. Its quiet stillness is like the insulated caress of living inside a dome of snow.

It is in this calmness that I hope you also had a moment to step back and enjoy the wonderland of your life.

I had a small childhood collection of souvenir-type snow globes. They are long gone, but those tiny window wonderlands pop into my thoughts each winter.

When I was a teacher, I created snow globes with the school kids for holiday gifts for their parents

It was my way of sharing everything I love about winter

Make and Shake Snow Globes

Materials:

A jar (baby food or olive jars work well)

Ceramic figurines

Small evergreen tips or flowers from craft shops

Glitter or fake snow

Distilled water

Glycerin (available in drug or health food stores)

The biggest problem with most alien films is the assumption that theyd want anything that might keep us alive for even a second. Theres a possiblity theyd want slaves, pack animals or meat, but what are the chances wed be any good to them at all? Life is a light dust of carbon between an nitrogen-oxygen vapor and an iron core. Our biosphere would probably be a nuisance to them. Its hard to match complex biology. Its easy and profitable to harvest elements, though, and if they came across space, that very well might be what they were looking for. Perhaps the best, most realistic, movie that could be made about alien contact is the two hellish hours a small band of survivors of the initial strike would last as they saw the planet ripped apart and broken down under them.

The point is, if they dont want us alive, we wont be. We can fight and we can hack and we can find weaknesses and we can band together. We can do whatever wed like. Wed still all be killed.

5 Mental Habits for Cutting Consumption

I often hear folks arguing that environmentalism is all about sacrifice?giving up this, banning that. But from eating less meat to requesting smaller portions, often we can cut back on our consumption without giving up our guilty pleasures completely. Heck, it can even be a great way to rediscover and revalue things we have come to take for granted.

And because going green often saves money, a recession is a great time to start reevaluating your consumption patterns. Add to that the mass of clutter and stuff that seems to just accumulate, all on its own, over the holidays, and things can get downright messy. In my own efforts to buy less, save more, and reduce the amount I consume, I?ve found myself developing a few mental habits and strategies for asking myself what I really want, and how badly.

Here are a few to get you started, but I?d love to hear your suggestions.

Obtaining sufficient magnesium from your diet can be difficult due to poor farming practices that provide 75% lower yield of the mineral in harvested crops as compared to a century ago. The result of a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition provides evidence that women with the highest dietary intake of magnesium were 41% less likely to suffer a fatal cardiac event.

The study followed more than 88,000 women over a period of 30 years and examined magnesium intake as well as other vital nutrients and lifestyle factors. Women in the highest quartile for dietary magnesium consumption experienced the highest degree of protection from sudden cardiac death. The study authors determined that 291 lives were spared in the study group for those women with the highest magnesium intake.

flu Swine flu pandemic outbreak sweeping through Britain even though 70 percent were vaccinated last year

(NaturalNews) A swine flu pandemic is sweeping through Britain despite the fact that 70 percent of Britains over-65 population was vaccinated against swine flu last year. This year, that number is nearly the same -- 68.5% -- but flu vaccine proponents insist that until everyone is vaccinated, the flu will continue to infect people.

What these vaccine advocates absolutely will not admit, however, is how many of those who are sick with the flu this year also got vaccinated last year. This little detail is left out of every mainstream media report on vaccines and the flu. They simply refuse to mention this all-important number, leaving readers to leap to the incorrect conclusion that only those who were not vaccinated get sick with the flu.

Inspire Medical to Test Implanted Device for Sleep Apnea

According to the National Institutes of Health, about 12 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea

The most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). During sleep, the airway collapses and the blockage causes shallow breathing or breathing pauses. One common cause is a relaxation of the tongue that causes it to cover air passages. Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes and often occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour.

Untreated sleep apnea can increase the risk of high blood pressure, arrhythmias, heart attack, heart failure, stroke, obesity and diabetes. Due to inadequate sleep, sleep apnea can also increase the chance of having a work-related or driving accident.

Inspire Medical Systems, based in Minneapolis MN, has developed a new device that works by stimulating the hypoglossal nerve in the tongue with a mild electrical current, causing the muscle to constrict

Senate Democrats Poised for Power Grab

clippers remarks: Remember when republicans talked of ending the filibuster when it came to presidential appointments and the democrats and their cohorts in the media came out telling us how that would lead to the fall of the country?

Funny thing is, now that they have lost the house, being able to ram everything through the senate while completely shutting out the minority wont do them any good. And since they are very likely to lose the senate in 2012 they would just be giving the republicans more power. They are nothing more than a bunch of short sighted, power hungry hypocrites.
Clip Source: www.redstate.com

The National Journal reports that Senate Democrats are laying the groundwork to chip away at the filibuster on January 5, 2011.  They are going to push the idea that a simple majority of the Senate can abolish the filibuster rules, or radically change the rules, in a new Congress.

All Democratic senators returning next year have signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., urging him to consider action to change long-sacrosanct filibuster rules.  The letter, delivered this week, expresses general frustration with what Democrats consider unprecedented obstruction and asks Reid to take steps to end those abuses.

They are angry that they could not railroad through the Senate legislation imposing Card Check, a Public Option for ObamaCare and Climate Change.  Now it is pay back time.

Liberals are going to destroy the tradition of extended debate and a free amendment process in the Senate if they can pull off this procedural coup.

Small earthquake rattles southern Quebec

Earthquake

A small earthquake measuring 3.1 in magnitude struck in southern Quebec on Monday morning, local residents reported.

The temblor occurred in an area near Buckingham, Que., at about 11:08 a.m. local time, Earthquakes Canada said.

A 3.0-magnitude earthquake typically produces a low rumble but causes no damage to property or the environment, according to Earthquakes Canada.

Mondays tremor isnt that unusual. Several minor earthquakes occur in the Ottawa and St. Lawrence valleys each year.

About a dozen have been reported in southwestern Quebec in the last month, although most had a magnitude of less than two.

Most earthquakes in Canada arent felt above ground, according to the Geological Survey of Canada.

At a magnitude of 8.1, the largest earthquake ever recorded in Canada struck off the Queen Charlotte Islands on B.C.s coast in August 1949.

The federal agency records and locates more than 4,000 earthquakes in Canada each year.

Cool Our Fever

clippers remarks: The unfortunate reality is that we have within and around our national boundaries about 3 percent of the world?s oil, but we consume about 24 percent of the world?s produced oil. So we buy what we don?t produce.

The OPEC nations don?t adjust production to meet demand; they maintain it to control prices so they have relatively stable income.

Oil is a strategic commodity, and we need to strip it of its strategic value.

The simple fact is that oil accounts for roughly 95 percent of the energy used for transportation in the United States (and our military is the world?s single largest consumer of oil), and that?s what makes it strategic.

Most significantly, in the United States fully half of all automobiles are driven fewer than 20 miles in any given day. This is an easy range for an electric-only or a plug-in-hybrid car.

Given that Germany is one of the cloudiest countries in Europe, right up there with England?the sun shines for only about a third of the year?it seems crazy that it would have more solar panels per capita than any other country in the world and that it employs more than 40,000 people in the solar power indus- try. But the Germans made it happen.

Within the past decade, Germany has gone from near zero to producing 8,000 megawatts (MW) of power from solar, the equivalent capacity of eight nuclear power plants in the United States.

We can and should do the same?begin to invest in solar and other renewable forms of energy in America. For far too long, we have been hooked on oil, and we continue to pay a terrible price for it economically, politically, militarily, and environmentally.

Return of the ?death panels?

Even in a health care bill that was unpopular, the panels that would make end-of-life recommendations in order to save the government on health care costs (said recommendations being passed on by paying doctors to share them with patients) were even more unpopular. Some people call these panels that make end-of-life recommendations ?death panels.? Others, thought the term inaccurate and prefer terms like ?end-of-life planning? and ?consultation? and ?directives.?

But whatever you call these panels that make end-of-life cost-cutting recommendations that doctors are paid to pass on to patients ? the New York Times just broke a huge story: they?re ba-a-ck. And somehow they?re even more intense. Whereas the House had passed a version of the bill that would arrange for consults once every five years, now target populations will have these chats with incentivized doctors every year.

Sunflower Seeds is made up of millions of small works, each apparently identical, but actually unique. However realistic they may seem, these life-sized sunflower seed husks are in fact intricately hand-crafted in porcelain.

Porcelain is almost synonymous with China and, to make this work, Ai Weiwei has manipulated traditional methods of crafting what has historically been one of China?s most prized exports. Sunflower Seeds invites us to look more closely at the ?Made in China? phenomenon and the geo-politics of cultural and economic exchange today.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, as of the end of 2009 a total of 7,225,800 people were either on probation, in prison or on parole in America.

That is a sign of a very, very sick society. Either we have a massive crime problem or the "control grid" that our leaders have erected for us is wildly out of control.

Or both.

Almost Everything Is A Crime In America Now: 14 Of The Most Ridiculous Things That Americans Are Being Arrested For

Doesnt it seem like almost everything is becoming a crime in America now?  Americans are being arrested and charged with crimes for doing things like leaving dog poop on the ground, opening up Christmas presents early, not recycling properly, farting in class and having brown lawns.  But is it healthy for our society for the police to be involved in such silly things?  Every single day the United States inches closer to becoming a totalitarian society.  While there are some that would welcome this shift, the truth is that throughout history the societies that have experienced the greatest economic prosperity have all had at least a certain level of freedom.  Business thrives when people feel free to live and work.  When a government tightens the grip too much many people just start shutting down.

VACCINES SIDE EFFECTS - H1N1 FLU VACCINE - http://www.newswithviews.com/Tocco/mary106.htm

December 26, 2010
The H1N1 Flu vaccine has proven to cause many unwanted side effect. Between the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting system in Washington and other reliable sources, the side effects are stacking up. Not only was the vaccine rushed to the market, it was based on flawed reports from the Center of Disease Control and the World Health Organization.

According to the CDC Vital Statistics Report 1999-2003, Influenza death for children under the age of 5 skyrocketed as they began to implement the flu vaccine for the children.

The H1N1 flu pandemic was based on false information from the Center of Disease Control and the World Health Organization.

The manufactures are completely protected from all liability.
Dec 7

Women who were told by their physicians to get the flu shot were three times more likely to get it, and women who were specifically told to get the H1N1 vaccination were a staggering 10 times more likely to accept the vaccination.

data presented to CDCs Advisory Committee on Childrens Vaccines shows the rate of miscarriage attributed to vaccination during the same period rose by 700% compared to both 2007 and 2008

Health statisticians who use reporting methods like VAERS have shown that between 10-90% of cases are missed due to under-reporting

NCOWs estimated that 1588 miscarriages (within a range of 946 to 3587) in 2009 were associated with pregnant mothers who were vaccinated with the H1N1 or combined influenza shot.

The CDCs response?

"there were absolutely no H1N1 vaccine-related adverse events in pregnant women in 2009/10."

The mother said she had left the child for only a few seconds while she went into a store to pick up a few things, but the shop had been far busier than she expected and she had had to wait.

Toy plane blamed for Auckland fire

A Christmas toy plane is being blamed for causing a fire that nearly claimed the lives of an Auckland family over Christmas.

The remote-controlled plane, bought online for $150, was given to 17-year-old Dylan Tooth for Christmas.

It is believed to have started a fire in Dylans bedroom while he was out, The New Zealand Herald reported.

Fire investigators said if a fire alarm network, which set all seven alarms off when triggered by a smoke detector, had not been installed, the family may have died.

"I sort of groaned, thinking it was the battery, but when I opened the door to [Dylans] bedroom, there were flames a metre high coming from his bed.

The Chinese manufactured plane was bought from online store 1day.com and is no longer available for sale on the bargain site.

Fire Service senior station officer Neville Trevarton said it was "pretty clear" the model plane set the house alight and planned to approach the seller.

Voyager 1 News: Probe Now Crossing Where a Mighty Wind Ceases to Blow

Technically, everything within our solar system could be said to exist in the suns atmosphere.

the solar wind, a flurry of charged particles constantly streaming from the sun in all directions at a whopping 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) an hour.

This supersonic wind forms a bubble around our entire solar system called the heliosphere.

8.7 billion miles (14 billion kilometers) out, the wind speed suddenly drops, creating a warmer, turbulent layer of solar particles around the solar system called the heliosheath.

Now, scientists announced today, Voyager 1 has reached the part of the heliosheath where the outward speed of the solar wind has dropped?to zero.

"When I realized that we were getting solid zeroes, I was amazed," said Voyager co-investigator Rob Decker.

"Here was Voyager, a spacecraft that has been a workhorse for 33 years, showing

Just in time for Tron: Legacy, a Florida bike shop put together 10 custom-built, street-legal Tron Light Cycle lookalikes. For a cool $55,000 (£35,100), you could be riding one to the 5 December premiere.

Though the bike looks like it drove straight off the movie screen, its not a replica or recreation since the Light Cycles in both Tron films were virtual. "We basically used the images we could get off the web in order to make the bike," said Halverson. "Keep in mind, no one ever made this bike before."

Children going back to school could trigger major flu epidemic

The decision not to vaccinate the under-fives against flu this winter risks starting the first epidemic for a decade when schools return next week.

Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary, was yesterday accused of ?serious misjudgment? for witholding the seasonal flu vaccine from children aged six months to their fifth birthday.

The Department for Health said experts had considered offering the seasonal flu vaccine to pre-schoolers, including an element to stop swine flu.

However, the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) decided in the end not to recommend this.

Last year, all parents of children aged six months to five years were offered the swine flu vaccine on the NHS.

Seventy children died, but a full scale epidemic was averted.

Bush Is Knighted in Queen Elizabeths Court

December 01, 1993

LONDON ? Former President George Bush, a Texas Yankee in Queen Elizabeths court, was knighted at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

Bush joined a select group of American presidents, all Republicans, who have been knighted.

Because hes an American, he didnt have to kneel like an English knight. For the same reason, he is not entitled to call himself "Sir."

Like Ronald Reagan, Bush was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath--or GCB--the highest honorary rank Britain can give a foreigner.

Dwight D. Eisenhower already had his knighthood when he moved into the White House in 1952.

The table talk was top secret and the menu strictly confidential. Bush was not wearing his new insignia and the broad ribbon of crimson silk that goes with the knighthood. A chat with the press and a display of his medal was not in order because it was a private visit, the palace said.

Japans Fisheries Agency has admitted its officials accepted gifts of whale meat from the body that runs the countrys so-called scientific whaling program.

Six months ago the ABC broadcast allegations by two whaling crew members that officials and crew were illegally taking thousands of dollars worth of whale cuts.

At the time the Fisheries Agency denied the allegations, but it has now reprimanded five of its officials for taking more than $3,000 worth of whale meat.

Agency spokesman Toyohiko Ota has publicly apologised for the scandal.

"I deeply apologise for this act in which officials took whale meat," he said.

"Its an act for which we will lose credibility. We will take prevention measures so it will never happen again," he added, with a deep bow of apology.

The original allegations, broadcast on ABC TVs Foreign Correspondent program, undermined Japans claim that its whaling program was purely for science.

BANGALORE (Reuters) - Two separate groups of iPhone and iPad users have sued Apple Inc alleging that certain software applications were passing personal user information to third-party advertisers without consent.

In the lawsuits seeking class action, filed in a federal court in California, the plaintiffs sought a ban on passing of user information without consent and monetary compensation, according to case documents.

At some point, both cases may be consolidated into one by the judges presiding over the cases, said Majed Nachawati, a partner at law firm Fears & Nachawati, one of the attorneys for the complainants.

Along with Apple, makers of popular apps such as Textplus4, Paper Toss, Weather Channel, Dictionary.com, Talking Tom Cat and Pumpkin Maker were also named co-defendants in the lawsuits filed on December 23.

"We are also looking at Googles Android platform and a lawsuit against them has not been ruled out," Nachawati said.

Condom cell phone charms all the rage in southern China

Teens in China have been sporting sexy cell phone charms ? individually wrapped condoms.

High school students in the Nanning region of China say the charms are "fresh" and most importantly, useful for emergency use, China Hush reported.

While the older generation of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Province in southern China, are shocked to see young people brazenly showing off their sexuality, educators see it as an opportunity for parents and children to talk about sex and not  be embarrassed.

"Parents and teachers can also take this opportunity to strengthen sex education, to preach correct and scientific sex knowledge, let kids know the correct use of condoms and how to better protect themselves during puberty," said Su Chang, Nanning City Next Generation of Educational Research senior psychologist.

While the charms are cheap at 5 yuan to 20 yuan, ($.75 to $3)  many worry the quality of the condom is too.

Researchers have discovered evidence of a distinct group of "archaic" humans existing outside of Africa more than 30,000 years ago at a time when Neanderthals are thought to have dominated Europe and Asia. But genetic testing shows that members of this new group were not Neanderthals, and they interbred with the ancestors of some modern humans who are alive today.

The journal Nature reported the finding this week. The National Science Foundations Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences Division partially funded the research.

Genetic sequencing of DNA extracted from a finger bone of a 5-10-year-old girl from the cave revealed that she was neither Neanderthal nor a modern human, but shared an ancient origin with Neanderthals.

Another type of analysis reported by the studys authors showed Denisovans contributed 4-6 percent of their genetic material to the genomes of present-day New Guineans.

authors disclose a previously uncharacterized episode of gene flow between "archaic" and modern humans.

Out of work? Hit the party circuit, but bring tact

Dont drink too much or sound too desperate while networking for a job at a holiday party.

According to Consumer Reports, youll spend an average of 15 hours at holiday gatherings this year. That means plenty of opportunities for networking for a job. The trick is to do it tactfully or dont do it at all.

If you are out of work, youd be crazy to skip the holiday party scene. You might not feel like going, but put on a tartan plaid tie or a little black dress and get out the door.

Have a 30-second pitch -- a soft-sell, if you will -- at the ready in case you run into an old work colleague or a make a new connection who may be in the position to hire.

It should be something simple, like, "Ive been volunteering and doing some research in (insert your field here) since the layoffs this summer. But Im ready to get back in. Ive got some great ideas for how to increase sales. Let me know if you hear of anyone ready to start moving forward in this economy."

Eastercocaine When looking through a passengers luggage, customs agents are "trained to detect anomalies in all kinds of situations," according to Lee Harty, a spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

It was certainly an anomaly when an agent in Los Angeles, CA noticed several Easter eggs in the luggage of 23-year-old Miami man Esteban Galtes, who was arriving on a flight from Columbia. Seeing as it was a few days before Christmas, this got the agents attention, and upon investigating, allegedly found that the eggs were filled with at least 14 pounds of cocaine.

Galtes was accused of smuggling, and held without bail.

I guess the lesson to learn here is that when if youre planning on smuggling cocaine into the country during Christmas time, at least have the good sense to smuggle it inside something more seasonal.

Banksters Created The Legislation For The FEDERAL RESERVE

clipped by: merrie
clippers remarks: THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK IS A PRIVATE COMPANY.

Dear American:

Pursuant to your request, I will attempt to clear up questions you have about the Federal Reserve Bank (FED). I spent much time researching the FED and these are the shocking and revealing conclusions.

Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution states that Congress shall have the power to coin (create) money and regulate the value thereof. Today however, the FED, which is a privately owned company, controls and profits by printing money through the Treasury, and regulating its value.

The FED began with approximately 300 people or banks that became owners (stockholders purchasing stock at $100 per share - the stock is not publicly traded) in the Federal Reserve Banking System. They make up an international banking cartel of wealth beyond comparison (Reference 1, 14). The FED banking system collects billions of dollars (Reference 8, 17) in interest annually and distributes the profits to its shareholders.
Clip Source: www.apfn.org
Rothschild, a London Banker, wrote a letter saying "It (Central Bank ) gives the National Bank almost complete control of national finance. The few who understand the system will either be so interested in its profits, or so dependent on its favours, that there will be no opposition from that class... The great body of the people, mentally incapable of comprehending, will bear its burden without complaint, and perhaps without even suspecting that the system is inimical (contrary) to their interests." [The bankers created the legislation for the FED]

In 1913, before the Senate Banking and Currency Committee, Mr. Alexander stated: "But the whole scheme of a Federal Reserve Bank with its commercial-paper basis is an impractical, cumbersome machinery, is simply a cover, to find a way to secure the privilege of issuing money and to evade payment of as much tax upon circulation as possible, and then control the issue and maintain, instead of reduce, interest rates.

Grandmas Superhero Therapy

A few years ago, French photographer Sacha Goldberger found his 91-year-old Hungarian grandmother Frederika feeling lonely and depressed. To cheer her up, he suggested that they shoot a series of outrageous photographs in unusual costumes, poses, and locations. Grandma reluctantly agreed, but once they got rolling, she couldnt stop smiling.

Frederika was born in Budapest 20 years before World War II. During the war, at the peril of her own life, she courageously saved the lives of ten people. When asked how, Goldberger told us "she hid the Jewish people she knew, moving them around to different places every day." As a survivor of Nazism and Communism, she then immigrated away from Hungary to France, forced by the Communist regime to leave her homeland illegally or face death.

Aside from great strength, Frederika has an incredible sense of humor, one that defies time and misfortune. She is funny and cynical, always mocking the people that she loves.

8 Abandoned American Theme Parks "Open" for Exploration

clipped by: odiedog
Clip Source: www.nileguide.com

Amusement parks walk the fine line between fun-ish and semi-creepy. Maybe it?s the combination of sketchy rides, circus folk, questionable attractions, and way too many screaming kids, but there?s something a little unsettling about them. Add an ill-advised theme into the mix, and you?ve got a real summer-time winner.

Although for most of the 20th century amusement parks were a staple of American culture, the shine is definitely off the bumper car. Tons of new parks litter the country, but many of the old classics, unable to compete with the snazzy new parks, have been shut down. Most have been destroyed to make way for housing developments and malls, but a few still remain. Mostly forgotten and in total disrepair, these abandoned amusement parks are sometimes more interesting in their decay then they were while in operation.

The prison industry in the United States: big business or a new form of slavery?

The prison industry in the United States: big business or a new form of slavery?

raymondvilleprison_large.jpg

Human rights organizations, as well as political and social ones, are condemning what they are calling a new form of inhumane exploitation in the United States, where they say a prison population of up to 2 million ? mostly Black and Hispanic ? are working for various industries for a pittance. For the tycoons who have invested in the prison industry, it has been like finding a pot of gold. They don?t have to worry about strikes or paying unemployment insurance, vacations or comp time. All of their workers are full-time, and never arrive late or are absent because of family problems; moreover, if they don?t like the pay of 25 cents an hour and refuse to work, they are locked up in isolation cells.

U.S. Statistics reveal that the United States holds 25% of the world?s prison population, but only 5% of the world?s people.

What has happened over the last 10 years? Why are there so many prisoners?

Stylelist Proves That A Full Nights Rest Improves Your Attractiveness!

Sleeping Beauty was onto something.

A study published in the British Medical Journal finds that the concept of beauty sleep is not just a myth, but a proven way to increase your attractiveness and perceived health and vitality among your peers, reports the U.K.s Daily Mail.

Carried out by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, the study photographed 23 healthy adults after a restful eight hours of sleep, and then again after no more than five hours of sleep. Lab monitoring ensured that the participants got the prescribed amounts of sleep. The women in the study wore no makeup for the photos, and kept their hair down so as not to inadvertently influence the viewers opinion.

The eight-hour and five-hour post-sleep photos were then rated by the general public on a scale of one to 10 in terms of attractiveness. The eight-hour slumberers won by a landslide.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) ? A man has been hospitalized after police in South Carolina say he was hit by an SUV while playing a real-life version of the video game "Frogger."

Authorities said the 23-year-old man was taken to a hospital in Anderson after he was struck at around 9 p.m. Monday.

In the "Frogger" arcade game, players move frogs through traffic on a busy road and through a hazard-filled river. Before he was hit, police say the man had been discussing the game with his friends.

Chief Jimmy Dixon says the man yelled "go" and darted into oncoming traffic in the four-lane highway.

No charges are expected against the driver. The name of the man who was struck has not been released. He was in stable condition Monday night.

Jamaican police have charged an Ontario man with attempted murder after his wife was found in their car with her throat slashed near the resort area of Montego Bay.

A police officer in the parish of Falmouth, who spoke on condition of anonymity, identified the accused as 43-year-old Paul Martin of Ajax, Ont., and said Martin would be in court Tuesday.

The officer said Martins wife, Cathy Lee Martin, 34, underwent surgery after the Dec. 23 attack and has been released from hospital, but has not left the country.

In Ottawa, a Foreign Affairs spokesman would not confirm the names due to privacy reasons.

Martin was arrested shortly after Cathy Martin was found with her throat slashed in a car parked off to the side on Stewart Castle road, in Falmouth east of Montego Bay on the islands north shore. The pair were there on vacation.

But when Boris returned home from his military expedition, he found the house cold and empty. When he called his wife?s name, there was only the echo of his own voice. Anna was gone.

Under the brutal regime of Joseph Stalin, Anna and her family had been declared enemies of the state. Boris? new bride was sent into exile in the vast plains of Siberia, with no chance to contact her husband. He didn?t even know if she was still alive.

On the recovery from the Little Ice Age

clipped by: amgumen
clippers remarks: A number of published papers and openly available data on sea level changes, glacier retreat, freezing/break-up dates of rivers, sea ice retreat, tree-ring observations, ice cores and changes of the cosmic-ray intensity, from the year 1000 to the present, are studied to examine how the Earth has recovered from the Little Ice Age (LIA). We learn that the recovery from the LIA has proceeded continuously, roughly in a linear manner, from 1800-1850 to the present. The rate of the recovery in terms of temperature is about 0.5°C/100 years and thus it has important implications for understanding the present global warming. It is suggested on the basis of a much longer period covering that the Earth is still in the process of recovery from the LIA; there is no sign to indicate the end of the recovery before 1900. Cosmic-ray intensity data show that solar activity was related to both the LIA and its recovery. The multi-decadal oscillation of a period of 50 to 60 years was superposed on the line

Deep beneath the ice of Antarctica, the world?s strangest observatory has finally reached completion.

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is a gigantic telescope at the South Pole that is designed to detect elusive subatomic particles called neutrinos that travel through Earth at the speed of light.

Construction of the telescope ended last weekend although it has already been collecting data for several years.

Very little is known about neutrinos, but they are believed to carry information about the birth of our galaxy and the mystery of black holes.

Nose job book from 1597 sells at auction.

clipped by: EddieIsSteady
Clip Source: www.metro.co.uk
A 16th century medical journal with guidance for doctors on how to perform nose jobs has just been snapped up for £11,000 at auction.

Bought by a plastic surgeon, the book addresses the rhinoplasty procedure in writings dating back to 1597. It proves that the obsession with going under the knife dates back way before the 20th century.

It is unknown if the plastic surgeon will try the old techniques, though his customers will likely hope not.

Plastic surgery may be older than you think (PA)

Called De Curtorum Chirurgia Per Insitionem - translating as Surgery of Defects by Implantations - the book contains one diagram with a patient in bed and his forearm attached to his head. A flap of skin is then grafted from his bicep to his nose.

It was penned by Italian surgeon Gaspare Tagliacozzi, who helped reshape the noses of soldiers who had been affected by battles during various conflicts.

Its a wonderful and rare book. The techniques were clearly well-thought of at the time, yet all was forgotten following Tagliacozzis death.

President Obama is voicing support for a U.N. resolution that could accomplish something as radical as relinquishing some U.S. sovereignty and opening a path for the return of ancient tribal lands to American Indians, including even parts of Manhattan.

The issue is causing alarm among legal experts.

Accounts Diverge Sharply in Night Raid Gone Wrong

clippers remarks: What is certain is that a shootout at the headquarters of the Afghan Tiger Group, a supplier of vehicles to the United States military, left two Afghan guards dead and two wounded, terrified dozens of Afghan civilians, and once again raised tensions between the coalition forces and the Afghan government over such night raids, which have long been a source of friction.

An examination of the raid ? which turned up no explosives ? and the widely diverging accounts of events show the difficulties the coalition forces face in winning public opinion for such military operations. Darkness, the coalition?s military advantage in such raids, becomes an obstacle to civilians? safety and understanding of events.

INVENTION OF MACHINE CONVERTING PLASTIC TO OIL!

clipped by: mountainpalm
clippers remarks: . The world?s oil resources are diminishing; does technology like this enable our denial of that fact, or is it a hopeful and constructive step in the right direction?

Others have concerns about pollution or toxic residue from the conversion process. Blest tells us that, if the proper materials are fed into the machine (i.e., polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene ? PP, PE, PS plastics), there is no toxic substance produced and any residue can be disposed of with regular burnable garbage. They also explain that while methane, ethane, propane and butane gasses are released in the process, the machine is equipped with an off-gas filter that disintegrates these gases into water and carbon.

Lastly, commenters from around the world are anxious to know if and where they can purchase a machine. Though the company still mainly produces larger, industrial-use machines, Blest Co. will be more than happy to hear from you. Please contact them directly at info@blest.co.jp.

Plastic to oil fantastic

Due to exceptional circumstances, we are republishing the present story about an exceptional innovation. Over a year after it was originally published, this video brief about the invention of a plastic-to-oil converting machine recently got a viral boost and exceeded 115,000 views on YouTube.

This is evidence that concern over ?the plastic problem? is certainly not going away, despite encouraging bans on and decreases in the use of plastic shopping bags.

Here on Our World 2.0, on the video?s YouTube page and those of re-posters too, as well as on the hot Reddit Science link, the topic has generated much interest and debate amongst commenters.

Many think that this type of recycling is not a solution, but that instead the world should be seriously focused on the first ?R? ? which is reduce. We should shun single-use plastic (such as your average PET bottle or disposable container) altogether, they argue.

Traditional mead is made with three ingredients ? honey, water and yeast. The biggest hurdle has been overcoming that centuries-old misconception that something made from honey HAS to be sweet.

There are even veggie meads.

Until about 1500, mead was THE alcoholic beverage of choice

And I think, personally, he shouldve been executed for that. He wasnt, but the idea that the President of the United States would be getting behind someone who murdered dogs? Kind of beyond the pale."

Top 10 Moments in Space Bathroom History

Even when youre millions of miles from home, you cant escape certain facts of life. When astronauts are orbiting hundreds of miles above Earths surface, they still have to eat, sleep and go to the bathroom. Of course, the mechanics of using the toilet -- and disposing of the resulting waste -- in zero gravity can get a little tricky.

Zombiesat Is Alive!

Galaxy-15

Can reanimated corpses ever really be brought back to life?

In the case of the Intelsat Galaxy 15 satellite that had its "brains fried" by a solar flare nine months ago, it would appear that zombies really can be brought back from the dead.

Amazingly, the "zombiesat" is back online, communicating with mission control and theres real optimism it might be brought back to full service!

The April solar storm killed Galaxy 15s ability to communicate with Earth but left its payload fully operational, drifting uncontrolled 26,000 miles (42,000 kilometers) above Earth.

On 23 December, the power from the Galaxy 15 battery completely drained

unit reset, as it was designed to do

Now we await news to see whether the restart will allow the infamous Galaxy 15 to continue service. If it does, perhaps the "zombiesat" should be renamed "resurrectisat."

The arrogance of the atheists: They batter believers in religion with smug certainty

clipped by: clip-on-tie
clippers remarks: Atheists make me want to power vomit. I really dont care about what people believe, but Im sick of Atheists crapping all over Christians and completely ignoring Muslims.

Whats up with that? They bitch and moan about Christians, but when Muslims fly a jumbo jet into a Manhattan skyscraper, theyre silent.

Ya damn hypocrites...if youre going to crap on religions, take a dump on them equally ....OK?

Or shut up.

Writers Christopher Hitchens (left, God is not Great) and Sam Harris (center, The End of Faith) embody modern atheism, says S.E. Cupp. Bill Maher (right) rips religion in his film Religulous.

Back in college, while I was busy pretending that a blottoed discussion of Nietzsche over $1 beers made me an intellectual giant, my fiftysomething father, whod worked so hard to send me there, was quietly being saved. Having long eschewed any ties to his Southern Baptist upbringing, he suddenly found himself born again and on a quest to know God better.

As a longtime atheist, I was a little surprised. But eventually I came to be relieved by this development. While my friends fathers were buying flashy sports cars and exchanging their wives for models, my own father was turning inward and asking: Is there more to life than this?

I was also proud of him for becoming a student again. As I watched him pore over C.S. Lewis, Lee Strobel and even neoatheist thinkers such as Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens, I thought it amazing that he still wanted to learn something new.

The Poorhouse: Aunt Winnie, Glenn Beck, And The Politics Of The New Deal

clipped by: ratilfar
clippers remarks: Aunt Winnie, whose story is preserved in the archives of the Historical Society of Washington, had been sent to an American institution that was by then some 300 years old and went by a variety of names: the county farm, the poor farm, the almshouse or, most often, simply the poorhouse. She would probably have been surprised to learn that more than a hundred years later, after the virtual eradication of elderly poverty, a powerful political movement would materialize with the mission of returning to the hands-off social policies that made the poorhouse the nations only refuge for the jobless, the aged, the infirm and the disabled.

That movements most outspoken proponent is Fox News host Glenn Beck, who doesnt merely pine for the pre-New Deal era in general, but regularly prevails upon his audience to recognize the particular genius of some of the periods presidents, whose ideologies of inaction he holds up as the American ideal.
The Poorhouse

Photograph shot by Dorothea Lange, 1895-1965, and resides in the U.S. National Archives.

"In the fall of 98 agent asked her to go into the almshouse, but she would not consent. During the storm in February 99, she was kept from perishing with a great effort. Every visit, and they were many, had to be made through snow up to the waist. It was during these visits that the promise was made that before another winter she would take refuge in an almshouse."

When the weather warmed, Aunt Winnie backed off her promise to go to the almshouse. The social worker started to play hardball.

"It would be hard to say which, the agent or the applicant, suffered the more, because through all this distress had sprung up a loving confidence and perfect trust that seemed cruel to deceive. Attention and assistance were withdrawn gradually."

Neptune, New Jersey / Maple Ave. off of Wayside Rd. This is ridiculous. We are being held hostage in our homes. Not one plow has been down our street in the four days since the blizzard. We were patient at first, but we are missing work, medical appointments. I have elderly parents that I take to/from critical care appts. Im depending on someone else to take care of them. No one gets out and no one gets in. God forbid anything happens that is an emergency. An apology won?t get it. Fire trucks ambulances can?t get in. We had 30 ?of snow and none has been removed by the city of Neptune. It?s not just me. I?ve called friends and family around town. All of the side streets seem to be the same. Help. Send a helicopter. Take video. Contact someone! I?ve called the police/ fire dept. number. You are quickly passed over to an unanswered extension. At first they put out automated calls Sunday and Monday. Now they can?t even come up with an excuse. Rebecca Luciano

Car hurtles off road in front of cops

A car plunged about 40 metres down a bank en route to Raglan yesterday right in front of a police car.

Volunteer Raglan fire officer Kevin Holmes said he and the police were travelling back from an earlier single-vehicle crash on State Highway 23, on the Hamilton side of the Raglan deviation, when they saw the car leave the road and go down the bank on the Raglan side of the deviation about 3.30pm.

"It happened right under the highway patrols noses," Mr Holmes said. The car plunged through a fence and into several bushes and trees. The woman driver was pulled to safety by a rescue line.

Mr Holmes said the woman ? who was shaken but not injured ? was lucky not to have been seriously hurt. "Had those trees not been there and shed gone straight into the paddock, it could have been worse."

The woman was driven home to Raglan in the police car. Mr Holmes said the driver from the first crash ? just before 3pm ? was also driven back to Raglan in the patrol car. The road was wet at the time.

Capping the UNs International Year of Biodiversity, botanists in Britain and the United States on Wednesday unveiled a library of plant names aimed at helping conservationists, drug designers and agriculture researchers.

The database, accessible at The Plant List, identifies 1.25 million names for plants, ranging from essential food crops such as wheat, rice and corn to garden roses and exotic jungle ferns, and provides links to published research.

The aim is to clear up a century-old taxonomic jumble in which non-standard names sowed ignorance, rivalry and sometimes damaging confusion about the worlds plant wealth.

UFOs were `all natural

UFo

The world famous ?Kaikoura Lights? UFO sightings of December 1978: In late December 1978, a spectacular series of sightings occurred over South Island skies. These sightings initially began on December 21 when the crew of a Safe Air Ltd cargo plane observed strange lighted objects around their Argosy aircraft. The lights, ranging in size to that of a house, tracked them for several minutes before disappearing, and reappearing elsewhere. They appeared on Wellington ATC radar, on the aircraft radar, and were sighted by hundreds of people.

Among the hundreds of UFO sightings in New Zealand, only one was ever fully investigated.

This is the first time it has been made public.

The air force report concluded that almost all the sightings could be explained by natural but unusual phenomenon on the sea, including lights from a Japanese squid fleet or a glow from the planet Venus.

Profiling the Psyclops

clipped by: Efrain Alvarado
clippers remarks: "For an egocentrist, lifes dilemmas and moral choices are opportunities for self-fulfillment. Egocentrism is not simply another term for selfishness. Principled conscience (to use a humanistic psychology term) is a cornerstone of egocentrism, and egocentrically conditioned people consult God and religion. It is an egocentrist truism that by our choices, we make a heaven or hell on earth. What lies beyond is not our business.

Like the cyclops of Greek mythology, the APA sees the world with one eye. It is dogmatic in the science it approves and its public policies on major moral questions such as abortion rights and the normalization of homosexuality. The APA has proceeded as if it is a proven fact that the psychological processes and moral destinations of the egocentric spiritual orientation are normative, healthy, and psychologically beneficial, and that those of the theocentric orientation and morality are non-normative, unhealthy, and psychologically negative."
In the United States, the American Psychological Association (APA) has been the most influential force in psychology for many years. Through its publications and approval processes, the APA has a monopoly on creating and legitimizing social scientific "objectivity" and "truth." Unfortunately, the spiritual biases of the APA have impeded the development of psychology as a science and handcuffed psychologys ability to help humanity.

Human events can be understood from two basic perspectives, or spiritual orientations. These are the psychological frameworks through which we experience meaning, an "ultimate authority" of life. Well call the first orientation theocentrism and the second egocentrism.

For a theocentrist, the significance of life resides in a relationship with God, and lifes moral choices are opportunities to love God in this life and beyond. America was built on theocentrism, and its still the predominant framework of American consciousness.

Close call and a good reason to keep hands in the boat

Photo / AP

A Northland man will think twice before washing his hands over the side of his boat after seeing a shark leap out of the water to bite his berley bag last week.

Richard Parker was fishing off Whangarei Heads on Thursday, only 30m from shore, when he had his close encounter.

"I was just sitting there dreaming in my boat, when a white belly came shooting up out of the depths," Mr Parker said.

"It totally left the water and splashed me as it came back down."

The shark, which Mr Parker said was as big as he was, grabbed his berley bag with bait in it to attract fish, shook it violently and ripped it in two.

"It happened so quickly and so spectacularly."

Mr Parker said he had been out fishing about twice a week and the water was teeming with fish and sharks this month.

"Ill think twice about washing my hands over the side because the water is so clear. You could lose your hands," he said.
