Oct. 26, 2010 -- Indonesias Mount Merapi erupted three times on Tuesday, causing thousands to flee and claiming the life of a three-month-old baby girl as it emitted searing clouds and volcanic ash.

Before the latest eruption people living in the shadow of Indonesias most active volcano had been warned to evacuate or risk being killed.

"We heard three explosions around 6:00 p.m. (11:00 GMT) spewing volcanic material as high as 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) and sending heat clouds down the slopes," government volcanologist Surono told AFP.

Authorities had put an area 10 kilometers (six miles) around the crater of Mount Merapi on red alert Monday, ordering 19,000 people to flee.

Karzai Protests U.S.-Russian Raid on Drug Labs

KABUL?A U.S. attempt to improve relations with Russia by cooperating against Afghanistans narcotics trade has ended up causing a surprise diplomatic confrontation with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

On Friday, the Russian government hailed a joint U.S.-Russian raid on drug labs in eastern Afghanistan. This appeared to be the first time that Russian security personnel carried out a mission on Afghan soil in two decades.

On Saturday, Mr. Karzai issued a harshly worded protest to Russia and to the U.S.-led headquarters of North Atlantic Treaty Organization troops in Afghanistan.

"The Afghan government condemns this action of NATO and declares that such arbitrary action is a blatant violation of Afghanistans sovereignty and of international laws, and any repetition of such acts will prompt necessary reaction by our country," a statement from the presidential palace said.

THE legal team representing the Yemeni woman arrested on suspicion of posting parcel bombs to America has told Sky News she is innocent and was tricked.

Engineering student Hanan Al Samawi, 22, was detained along with her mother after being traced by a receipt for the packages which were found on freighter jets in Britain and Dubai in an alleged al Qaeda plot.

Radhia Khairan, who is part of the team representing Al Samawi, told Sky News her client is a woman of "good morals" who has shown "no criminal side up to now".

It is understood Al Samawi is being questioned at Yemens intelligence headquarters but Khairan said she has not been given access to her yet.

Yemeni security forces have also launched a wider search for more suspects believed to be linked to the Yemeni branch of al Qaeda and the mail bombs, AFP reported, citing local media reports.

The Rally to Restore Sanity has come to a close, and crowd estimates are beginning to trickle in. It is clear that a huge number of people attended the event (see photos from the rally here), but the calculations vary among sources.

According to CBS News, 215,000 people showed up for the rally on Saturday. By comparison, CBS estimated that 87,000 -- just 40% of the Sanity Rally estimation -- attended Glenn Becks "Restoring Honor" rally in August.

Canadas CTV, meanwhile, wrote that 250,000 people were estimated to have partaken in the Rally to Restore Sanity.

Earlier on Saturday, Brian Stelter tweeted that the Parks Service approximated that "well over 200,000" attended Saturdays rally.

NASA?s Solar Dynamics Observatory caught an enormous plasma twister erupting on the surface of the sun Oct. 28.

The explosion was triggered by a tangled coil of magnetism that suddenly untwisted, acting like a loaded spring and hurling solar matter into space. At its peak, the twister towered more than 217,000 miles above the surface of the sun.

Luckily, the fragments of plasma flung into space were not headed toward Earth, where they could have caused a magnetic storm. Now that the twister has relaxed, it probably won?t erupt again ? though other sunspots are gathering energy and could produce medium-sized solar flares.

During a discussion about Proposition 19 on Bill Mahers HBO show "Real Time" last night, Zach Galifianakis commented that the peoples opposition to marijuana legalization might be rooted in a feeling that smoking marijuana is still taboo. He then shocked the panel and delighted the audience by pulling out a joint and lighting up on the set.

He passed it to one of the stunned panelists, who smelled it, and seemed to confirm that it was indeed the real stuff.

Galifianakis point, presumably, was to show that you can smoke marijuana and not act in a crazy manner.

There are two main types of cough, dry and chesty. The cough is an involuntary action by the brain to clear a blockage or irritant from the body?s airways. A cough may also be due to a viral infection such as the flu or common cold.

GROWING numbers of girls are reaching puberty before the age of 10, raising fears of increased sexual activity among a new generation of children.

Scientists believe the phenomenon could be linked to obesity or exposure to chemicals in the food chain, and is putting girls at greater long-term risk of breast cancer.

A study has revealed that breast development in a sample of 1,000 girls started at an average age of 9 years and 10 months ? an entire year earlier than when a similar cohort was examined in 1991.

The research was carried out in Denmark in 2006, the latest year for which figures were available, but experts believe the trend applies to Britain and other parts of Europe. Data from America also point to the earlier onset of puberty.

?We were very surprised that there had been such a change in a period of just 15 years,? said Anders Juul, head of the Department of Growth and Reproduction at the University hospital in Copenhagen, a world leader in the study of hormones and growth.

The researchers created "working livers" the size of a walnut which functioned normally in laboratory conditions.

They believe that in around five years they will be able to upscale the process and transfer the procedure from laboratory to hospital.

The development could eventually solve the transplant shortage and also remove the need for powerful drugs to prevent the body rejecting the organ.

The technology opens up the prospect of growing other replacement organs, including kidneys or pancreases, for patients who are able to donate stem cells.

The new technique works by effectively chemically stripping the old liver down too its basic "scaffold" or exoskeleton in a process of called "decellularisation".

Onto this frame of connective tissue and blood vessels, they then regrow the new liver using stem cells from the patient.

Stem cells from embryos could also be used.

A 25-year-old Australian found himself the victim of the worst kind of prank -- one conducted by a tattoo artist with a particularly raunchy sense of humor.

Despite having requested some fairly harmless ink -- a yin-yang symbol and some dragons -- the man returned home to discover a 16-inch penis and an obscene, albeit misspelled, slogan "implying that he was gay" inscribed on his back, the Ipswich Queensland Times reports.

"When he got home he showed it to the person he lives with and she said: I dont think its the tattoo you were after," Queensland detective Paul Malcolm told the Times.

And as if being permanently marked with a giant phallus on his back wasnt enough, the victim was also allegedly punched and thrown out of the studio by the 21-year-old amateur artist after the tattoo was completed, according to the AFP.

On top of the inevitable ridicule, the victim reportedly faces a bill of between $600 to $2,000 to have the tattoo removed.
