I think it speaks to a lack of intelligence on the part of the people running the league. In my opinion there is no justification for choosing a system that allows incorrect calls to stand over correct ones. And the argument about a slippery slope happening once you start to have instant reply in some circumstances but not others ignores the fact that human beings were blessed with discretion and reason. With England trailing 2-1 in the first half of Germanys 4-1 victory in the round of 16, a shot from Frank Lampard from just outside the penalty area hit the crossbar and bounced down, but referee Jorge Larrionda of Uruguay did not award a goal. Replays showed the ball had crossed the goal line by several feet. After landing inside the goal, the ball spun back to German keeper Manuel Neuer. Belgiums justice minister has responded to the criticism robustly, saying normal procedures were followed. Stefaan De Clerck defended the police action, in a series of TV interviews on Sunday, and said the investigation was legitimate. The dolphins were running away from the scene where the oil spilled and they were moving towards the shore. What will happen if oils are surging ahead to the shore. The answer is obvious. As a water researcher, I have been always thinking why the oils and water cannot be combined. Perhaps scientists can answer this question with using an equation however, it is difficult to understand and I think their answer cannot answer my essential question ?Why is that?? So, from a viewpoint of a water messenger, I would like to mention my opinions regarding this question. ?Water is the principal of all things.? Nobody will deny this word which was said by Thales, the Greek Philosopher in 2500 BC. All things were created by blueprint of creator in water and we can say that water should be able to combine with all things. Food of the Weekclipped by: kkcapricorn![]() Store corn in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Do not remove its husk since this will protect its flavor. To enjoy its optimal sweetness, corn should be eaten as soon as possible. Corn can be cooked either with or without its husk in a variety of different ways. If using the wet heat methods of boiling or steaming, make sure not to add salt or overcook as the corn will tend to become hard and lose its flavor. Or, they can be broiled in the husk. If broiling, first soak the corn in the husk ahead. Eat corn on the cob either just as is or seasoned with a little organic butter, olive oil or flaxseed oil, salt and pepper, nutritional yeast or any other herbs or spices you enjoy. Healthy sauté cooked corn with green chilis and onions. Served hot, this makes a wonderful side dish. Tell Congress No to New Drillingclipped by: celestialdancerclippers remarks: First I was elated (quietly so) when I read that Obama had put a moratorium in place stopping new offshore drilling and then I read this news about a judge overturning that decision and couldnt help thinking intelligence has little to do with how many degrees you have, what position you hold in government, law, medicine, science, or anywhere really. There are ignoramuses at every level, just like there are geniuses and brilliant people at every level. Yet, here is something I realized about technology (generally) - it is not the solution to the problems we currently face. We are kidding ourselves if we think it is. Each and everyone of us has to look "deep really deep" and sift out the bullshit that has infiltrated into our "wisdom". A federal judge in Louisiana ? who, according to the most recent financial disclosure forms available, owned stock in several oil companies as recently as 2008 ? stood with the oil industry this week and lifted the Obama Administration?s 6-month moratorium on new deepwater exploration and existing deepwater drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Despite the fact that as much as 60,000 barrels of oil continue to pour into the Gulf every day, the judge called the moratorium ?arbitrary and capricious.? The oil industry?s gross negligence led to the current disaster ? and many more like it in the past. It could not be clearer that we need to transition off of dirty fossil fuels once and for all. The Obama Administration has promised to refine and reinstate the moratorium, which they definitely should do. But what we really need is Congressional action. t be allowed to hijack our energy policy any longer. Take action now to tell Congress: No new drilling. As conscious agents of evolution, we can redesign post-industrial society on ecological principles to make a world that works for all. Rather than breakdown and barbarism, 2012 heralds the birth of a regenerative planetary culture where collaboration replaces competition, where exploration of psyche and spirit becomes the new cutting edge, replacing the sterile materialism that has pushed our world to the brink. MS sufferer treated with bee stingsclipped by: foxyarseclippers remarks: Most people would be terrified by the prospect of being stung by a bee. But when you have a condition like MS, that involves the numbing of the body, any kind of sensation is welcome - even if its from a bee sting. You use a pair of tweezers and get hold of a single bee. Then you gradually desensitise your body to the sting by injecting it in and out of your skin a few times. You have to build it up slowly - you start with two, then four, then six. Ten to 14 was my average for each session. It had an immediate effect because it has a kind of psychological, mental effect. I used to feel elated for about two hours after the treatment. Bee Venom Therapy, or Apitherapy, uses the stings of live bees to relieve symptoms of MS such as pain, loss of coordination, and muscle weakness. MS sufferer treated with bee stingsA multiple sclerosis sufferer has treated her debilitating condition with a course of 1,500 bee stings.Sami Chugg, 45, was diagnosed with MS in 1998 and it slowly began to attack her ability to move. The incurable disease stops the bodys nerve cells communicating and she was soon so ill she was permanently bed ridden. Sami, a charity worker from Bristol, was plagued by numbness and she could barely walk or leave her room. But she is now back on her feet after trying a treatment called Bee Venom Therapy (BVT). The treatment involves holding a bee in a pair of tweezers and deliberately stinging an area of skin on the patients body. Experts believe the venom in the sting helps ease the pain of MS symptoms and also stimulates the body to fight back. Sami says she was stung around 1,500 in eighteen months and says it has given her her mobility back. She said: When I started the BVT I couldnt get out of bed or get out of my room - it was really grim. *Yawn*clipped by: stokerclippers remarks: But you wont fall asleep looking at www.safetyphoto.co.uk ![]() Survey on snoozing staff is wake-up call for employersWHILE even the best employees are apt to the odd daydream of a summer?s afternoon, Irish workers have a tendency to go a step further by actually falling asleep on the job. Most mainstream researchers consider A.D.H.D. to be an authentic neurological deficit that, left untreated, can ruin not only school report cards, but lives. Nonetheless the quest for objective evidence has gained new urgency in recent years.
Many critics say the disorder is being rampantly overdiagnosed by pill-pushing doctors in league with the drug industry, abetted by a culture of overanxious parents and compliant educators.
All this helps explain why an objective test has become ?the holy grail? for many researchers, said Stephen Hinshaw, chairman of the psychology department at the University of California, Berkeley. Still, he and other experts are not convinced that any one test developed so far has proved better than the prevailing checklist method.

Ravens
clipped by: abailartclippers remarks: Christian stories of ravens may not have reversed popular perceptions of ravens but have two virtues: 1) they point to a sense of benignity in creation, and 2) in each instance, ravens are associated positively with the solitary and with places of solitude. How can the sense of benignity towards ravens exemplified by these tales outweigh the image of the raven associated with the oppression of war and destruction that is so intense in our consciousness, a restless despair, hopelessness, and unease? Fukase precisely taps this uneasiness. It is not necessary to be on a battlefield to feel this way. Life is a battlefield as far as the subconscious is concerned. U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd Dead At 92

Now, dozens of projects bear the senators name: the Green Bank radio telescope, the federal courthouses in Charleston and Beckley, the locks on the Ohio River at Gallipolis Ferry, a Clarksburg high school and numerous streets, libraries, health clinics, college departments -- a seemingly unending list. Theres the Robert C. Byrd Freeway (Corridor G) and the Robert C. Byrd Highway (Corridor H), both part of the Robert C. Byrd Appalachian Highway System. As he said in 2000, "West Virginia has always had four friends: God Almighty, Sears Roebuck, Carters Liver Pills and Robert C. Byrd." Byrds political career was also dogged by his early membership in the Ku Klux Klan, which he said he joined mostly because of its anti-communist position and the political connections he could make there. This will undoubtedly have little bearing on the outcome of the "Hurt Locker" case but it could be a good example of the kind of opposition Voltage and Dunlap Grubb will face as they attempt to kick-start an antipiracy approach employed for five years by the top four music labels before it was abandoned in Dec. 2008.
Jeff Kowalski, 28, filed an "Answer" to the complaint laid against 5,000 as yet unnamed people who the films producers allege have shared the movie illegally via peer-to-peer services.
"Defendant Mr. Kowalski requests that Plaintiffs complaint be dismissed," Kowalski wrote earlier this month to U.S. District for the District of Columbia.
One of the problems with Kowalskis legal claims, however, is that he cant know whether hes a defendant because Voltage Pictures, producer of "The Hurt Locker," has yet to subpoena the names of the accused file sharers from their Internet service providers, according to court documents. For that reason, Voltages attorneys were forced to file an eight-page motion to strike Kowalskis response on grounds that he isnt a defendant and because his "answer" doesnt comply with federal rules of civil procedure.

Finland appoints second woman PM
clipped by: finn_gclippers remarks: A total of 115 of Finlands 200 parliamentary members voted in favour of Kiviniemis appointment, while 56 legislators with the left-leaning opposition voted against. The opposition had called for early elections after Vanhanen tendered his resignation Friday as head of a four-party coalition. Vanhanen was among the first to congratulate a smiling Kiviniemi after the vote, followed by Kiviniemis beaming parents, according to local media. Kiviniemi is expected to serve as prime minister until the next legislative elections, scheduled for April 2011, and the Centre Party hopes her clean image will boost ratings and help it remain in power also beyond the vote. She has been Finlands public administration and local government minister since 2007 and an MP since 1995. She was also minister for foreign trade and development for six months in 2005-2006, but through her years in politics, she has kept a relatively low profile and remains fairly unfamiliar to most Finns.
Finlands president on Tuesday appointed Mari Kiviniemi the Nordic countrys second woman prime minister following the resignation last week of second-term premier Matti Vanhanen.
The 41-year-old Kiviniemi was given the green light after parliament voted for her and President Tarja Halonen formally dissolved scandal-hit Vanhanens second government, which has been in power since 2007.
"I have to say, I am extremely happy," Kiviniemi was quoted as saying by the Finnish news agency STT as she left the parliamentary chamber after the ballot.
Women now hold the two top posts in Finland for the second time in the countrys history as Halonen continues her second presidential term.
Kiviniemi is seen as a clean-living, capable politician who was the obvious choice to replace the embattled Vanhanen as Centre Party leader, but faces criticism for her cool style and lack of charisma.

Gun Rights Case: Supreme Court Rules on Second Amendment

Alito Jr. wrote for the conservatives on the court... The victory might be more symbolic than substantive, at least initially. The decision came on the final day of the term and at a time of great change for the court. Justice John Paul Stevens sat at the mahogany bench for the last time, and will end more than 34 years on the court when his retirement becomes official Tuesday. Confirmation hearings for Solicitor General Elena Kagan, President Obamas choice to replace Stevens, were scheduled to begin Monday afternoon. http://bit.ly/9VDq82
The Supreme Court ruled for the first time Monday that the Second Amendment provides all Americans a fundamental right to bear arms, a long-sought victory for gun rights advocates who have chafed at federal, state and local efforts to restrict gun ownership.
The court was considering a restrictive handgun law in Chicago and one of its suburbs that was similar to the District law that it ruled against in 2008. The 5 to 4 decision does not strike any other gun control measures currently in place, but it provides a legal basis for challenges across the country where gun owners think that government has been too restrictive.

Alzheimers World -- Two Circles Trying to Intersect

Take the relationship between my mother and me as an example.
Ive known my mother my entire life. We have been communicating our entire lives. I would imagine that our communication is similar to most people. We engaged in all the human behaviors and emotions over the years. We established patterns on how to deal with the good and the bad.
Did I ever get angry with my mother -- of course. Frustrated, agitated -- of course. When we had a problem with each other we learned how to work it out. How to make up and reattach.
Over the course of 50 years we developed our own method of communication -- our own behavior.
Then Alzheimers struck.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is warning of the threat of a new global credit crash and a deep recession.
In its annual report, released in Basel, Switzerland tonight, the BIS says the world is ill equipped to deal with a renewed economic and financial crisis because interest rates are at or near zero in most advanced economies and the level of government debt is already unsustainable.
"The financial disruptions in the first half of 2010 have brought the fragility of the industrial worlds financial system into stark relief," the BIS said.
"A shock of virtually any size risks a replay of the events we saw in late 2008 and early 2009.

Fiber has almost no food value for humans because our guts cannot break down the fiber cell walls. But some foods which have a lot of fiber also contain useful vitamins and minerals (eg. fruit and vegetables). Fiber passes through the human gut almost untouched. Brain size linked to personality
The size of different parts of peoples brains corresponds to their personalities, psychologists have found.
Brain scans of 116 volunteers showed that conscientious people tend to have a bigger lateral prefrontal cortex, a region of the brain involved in planning and controlling behaviour.
Very extroverted people had a significantly larger part of the brain which is associated with seeking rewards - the medial orbitofrontal cortex, just above and behind the eyes.
But the researchers, whose study is published in Psychological Science, said personality was not fixed from birth. Rather experiences change the brain as it grows, which can change personality.

The pan formation is made of a series of concave depressions in the rock that typically forms beyond the edge of the seashore. As a result, this part of the pavement dries out more at low tide than the portion abutting the seashore and allows salt crystals to develop further, resulting in salt forming on the surface, which erodes the surface more quickly than at the joints. As a result, the surface of the "pans" erode more quickly, while the joints erode more slowly.

The incident happened after the band played a concert in front of 60,000 fans in Bucharest on May 16, it said.
The national roads company said the "overzealous" employees had stopped the bands convoy at Hungarian border and demanded a total of 2500 euros ($A3535) in so-called fines for allegedly failing to pay highway tolls.
AC/DC said in a letter to the company however that they had received no receipt for the fine, the companys manager Doina Tiron told AFP.
After an internal investigation, the company decided to fire four inspectors who were involved in the incident, the director of the company for the Timisoara region, Ioan Malita, told Mediafax.

clipped by: altalomanclippers remarks: "I want to assure you that I am genuinely content to receive from God whatever He deems fit for me even if it is from His left hand because better something from His left hand than no hand at all, right?" the beloved disability advocate and quadriplegic said in a video message to supporters.
After 43 years of living paralyzed from the neck down and recently learning that she now has breast cancer, Joni Eareckson Tada remains all smiles.
For decades, Tada has assisted and given hope to those affected by disabilities through her Joni and Friends ministry. Paralyzed since 17 after a diving accident, Tada dedicated the rest of her life to God and has, in the process, inspired countless people around the world.

According to the New York Times, more than three dozen people watched as 28-year-old Kitty Genovese was stabbed to death in a brutal and prolonged attack outside her New York apartment. Not one of them lifted a finger to help or even called the police.
The shocking murder, back in 1964, prompted more than four decades of psychological studies into how witnesses behave when confronted by violence in the street. The studies all identified a "bystander effect", which predicts that the larger the group of people who observe a violent incident, the less likely it is anyone will take action.
Evolutionary biology suggests that our natural genetic instinct is to behave in an altruistic and supportive way if someone is being attacked. So why do people seem to walk by, particularly if they are in a crowd?
6 Super Close-Ups of Crazy Bug Eyes
clipped by: tabseyclippers remarks: If you dont recognize the eyes, a list of names in order at the bottom of the clip. If you do, you are pretty good.

They may not seem like creatures worth admiring when they are buzzing around your head or landing on your lunch, but under the microscope, bugs can be truly spectacular. Especially their eyes.
For the past 35 years, Nikon has held its Small World photomicrography competition to recognize excellent images of really tiny stuff. Of the many photos of bug eyes they?ve received over the years, these are the ones that caught the judges? eyes. (I was on the judging panel this year, so I happen to know that there may be an addition to the list coming soon.)
And yes, I know the shrimp in the third image is not a bug, but it is buggy, and its eye is awesomely crazy looking.

Third US Carrier with 4,000 Marines MOVES IN ...Target IRAN !

Third US carrier, 4,000 Marines augment US armada opposite Iran

Debkafile?s military sources report that Washington has posted a third carrier opposite Iran?s shores. It is supported by amphibious assault ships and up to 4,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel, bringing the total US strength in these waters to three carriers and 10,000 combat personnel.
The USS Nassau (LHA-4) Amphibious Ready Group 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, tasked with supporting the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet area of operations, is cruising around the Bab al-Mandeb Straits where the Gulf of Aden flows into the Red Sea. Its presence there accounts for Tehran announcing Sunday, June 27 that its ?aid ship for Gaza? had been called off, for fear an American military boarding party would intercept the vessel and search it. This would be permissible under the latest UN sanctions punishing the Islamic Republic for its nuclear program. Read More?.
Governed by Fools
clipped by: merrieclippers remarks: Even after the U.S. refused, the Dutch kept their vessels on standby, hoping the Americans would come round. By May 5, the U.S. had not come round. To the contrary, the U.S. had also turned down offers of help from 12 other governments, most of them with superior expertise and equipment --unlike the U.S., Europe has robust fleets of Oil Spill Response Vessels that sail circles around their make-shift U.S. counterparts. Why does neither the U.S. government nor U.S. energy companies have on hand the cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. full post http://bit.ly/96845D http://confederateyankee.mu.nu
Tell BP and DC to STOP Keeping Us From Saving Our Wildlife!!!

"There are so many people that are connected to nature and the water that want to help, but theres a political and corporate noose around the Gulf," Castlow told Trade Only Today.
Castlow said his company is about to launch its second 17-foot Shallow Water Attention Terminal, or SWAT, rescue boat, but scientists at the University of Southern Mississippis Gulf Coast Research Laboratory are prohibited from using them to rescue wildlife by BPs Incident Command Center.
Castlow is hoping the publicity will promote his newly created Dragonfly Environmental Army, a grassroots movement to break the bureaucratic gridlock preventing concerned citizens from helping with the crisis in the Gulf. A website is in the works, but for now those interested are urged to all (772) 567-8835 for information on getting involved.
Keystone Kunuck Kops
clipped by: merrieclippers remarks: by Mark Steyn ... More fun from the G20 summit...... Having stood by watching as a mob trashed downtown businesses (and their own cruisers), the peculiarly insecure dweebs of the Toronto police are now threatening law-abiding passers-by (that would be Cop#3478) and beating up Guardian reporters: Steve Paikin, a prominent Toronto journalist said that he was escorted away by two police officers who saw his government-issued summit media credentials. He was advised that if he stayed he would be arrested. As he was being taken away, Mr. Paikin said he saw another journalist, Jesse Rosenfeld, a contributor to the Guardian website, showing his identification to two police officers. At that point, according to Mr. Paikin, each of them took one of Mr. Rosenfeld?s arm as a third police officer, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, punched the reporter in the stomach. After Mr. Rosenfeld fell to the ground, the third officer jabbed an elbow into his back. Mr. Paikin said.
Steyn mocks the local constabulary who stood by as businesses and their own cruisers were trashed and torched, then started breaking reporters? heads outside the G20 up north. Steyn also advises al-Qaeda of a tactical opportunity: great night to hit the CN Tower, and mocks the expenditure of piles of loonies on body armor and other really cool-looking Darth Vader gear that was apparently purchased mainly because it looks cool.
Beating up the press is wrong, but I have to admit I?m having a hard time getting exercised on general principle about Canadian cops drubbing scribblers from the Guardian and the BBC. There?s a poetic injustice to it.

Tom Kenyan on the Gulf Spill - An Alternative View
clipped by: celestialdancerclippers remarks: I add here Toms own take on how to approach his communications: "Before you read over the material in this Hathor section, I would like to offer a bit of advice?an intellectual consideration if you will. I will tell you what I say to those who attend my workshops?keep an ?imaginary box? beside you at all times. If what I say doesn?t make sense to you or violates your view of reality, then I suggest you just toss it in the box. Never swallow or accept as truth, anything anyone says without sifting it through your own life-experience, your own sense of logic, and, very importantly, your own personal values. Swallowing ideas without chewing on them and digesting them thoroughly can lead to a type of mental and/or spiritual indigestion. And for this type of ailment, there is no such thing as an instant antacid." Basically I hear, listen to your intuition it will keep you safe.
