Well, I must be a glutton for punishment because I can?t resist jumping (albeit reluctantly) to Obama?s defense again. I?m venting my spleen for two reason. First, FoxNews.com posted a story headlined ?Obama Shatters Spending Record for First-Year Presidents? and noted that: I?m a big fan of criticizing Obama?s profligacy, but it is inaccurate and/or dishonest to blame him for Bush?s mistakes. At the risk of repeating my earlier post, the 2009 fiscal year began on October 1, 2008, and the vast majority of the spending for that year was the result of Bush Administration policies. Yes, Obama did add to the waste with the so-called stimulus, the omnibus appropriation, the CHIP bill, and the cash-for-clunkers nonsense, but as the chart illustrates, these boondoggles only amounted to just a tiny percentage of the FY2009 total ? about $140 billion out of a $3.5 trillion budget. ![]() 4 Lakewood Officers Slain; Maurice Clemmons Sought for Questioningclipped by: merrieclippers remarks: Reward information call 253-591-5959 or 866-977-2362. The American economy is broken, ruined by the greed and irresponsibility of fabulously wealthy corporate chieftains and their shabby acolytes and enablers in government. While Wall Street is handing out billions in bonuses, American families are struggling with joblessness, home foreclosures and rampant debt. The economic woes are exacting a fierce toll on family life, and children are taking a big hit ? emotionally, psychologically and otherwise. The outlook for America?s working classes is bleak. Fox News appearance earns White House slap, strategist says WASHINGTON ? - At least one Democratic political strategist has gotten a blunt warning from the White House to never appear on Fox News Channel, an outlet that presidential aides have depicted as not so much a news-gathering operation as a political opponent bent on damaging the Obama administration. The Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said. The message was, "We better not see you on again," said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that "clients might stop using you if you continue." He added: "I have heard that theyve done that to others in not too subtle ways. I find it appalling. SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based. It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years. The UEA?s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation. The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals ? stored on paper and magnetic tape ? were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building. Oyster produces power by pumping high pressure water to its onshore hydro-electric turbine which feeds into the national grid to power homes in nearby Orkney and beyond. Oyster is designed to capture the energy found in near-shore waves in water depths between 10-16m (33-54ft). There are minimal moving parts and all electrical components are onshore, making it robust enough to withstand the rigors of Scotland?s harsh seas. CERN announced early Monday that the Large Hadron Collider has become the world?s highest-energy particle accelerator. The LHC pushed protons to 1.18 TeV (trillion electron volts), surpassing the previous record of 0.98 TeV held by Fermilab?s Tevatron. The LHC has had a rough beginning, suffering a mechanical failure just a week after it started up for the first time in September 2008. Now, 10 days after it turned on again, scientists are celebrating with their fingers crossed that the machine is safely on its way to the physics experiments they plan to start next year when the LHC has reached its target energy of 7 TeV. ?We are still coming to terms with just how smoothly the LHC commissioning is going,? said CERN Director General Rolf Heuer in a press release Monday. ?However, we are continuing to take it step by step, and there is still a lot to do before we start physics in 2010. Proposed by Bernhard Riemann in 1859, the Riemann Hypothesis deals with prime numbers. You may recall that a prime number is a positive whole number that has only two positive whole number divisors: one and itself. The first of them are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, in order. This hypothesis would be able to provide a better estimate than ever before of a special function denoted as Pi(x). Pi(x) represents the number of prime numbers that are no bigger than x, where x is a positive number. For example, Pi(14) would be 6, because there are six prime numbers (2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13) no bigger than 14. Thats probably the most understandable explanation youre going to get that doesnt involve "zeta functions" and other technical terms. But if you can solve it, the Clay Mathematics Institute will give you $1 million. Tags: math ugliest tattoos-a gallery of regretclipped by: doodleiciousUgliest TattoosBad, Awful & horrible tattoos ? LONDON: A smoking gun memo warning Tony Blair of the illegality of a military invasion of Iraq was written eight months before the war and has been handed to the Chilcot inquiry. The controversial letter, from the former attorney-general Lord Goldsmith, was written in July 2002 and warned Mr Blair in the starkest terms that using force to depose Saddam Husseins regime breached international law. The Mail on Sunday has reported that the memo, which Mr Blair is alleged to have covered up, was provided to the inquiry in a collection of documents from the Attorney-Generals department. It is now expected Mr Blair will be interrogated about the timing and wording of the advice when he is called to give evidence early next year. Lord Goldsmith was reported to have lost 19 kilograms in the months after his advice was rejected and denied by Mr Blair. He apparently threatened to resign but his family talked him out of it. Stones Into Schoolsclipped by: debbyski In a part of Afghanistan so remote it can take days if not weeks to journey there, the people are tired of fighting. First the Russians, then the Taliban. Now, they simply want to build a better life for the next generation. There has been far too much dying in these hills. We must turn these stones into schools. " The philosophy is simple: Mortenson believes that conflict in the region will not be won by combat and airstrikes but with books, pencils and notebooks -- the tools of socioeconomic growth. Over the course of the book, readers follow in part how this promise comes to fruition after 10 years of effort, but we also follow the construction of countless other schools, womens literacy programs, bridges and water delivery systems. The Sixth Extinctionclipped by: debbyski There is a holocaust happening. Right now. And its not confined to one nation or even one region. It is a global crisis. Every 20 minutes we lose an animal species. If this rate continues, by centurys end, 50% of all living species will be gone. It is a phenomenon known as the sixth extinction. The fifth extinction took place 65 million years ago when a meteor smashed into the Earth, killing off the dinosaurs and many other species and opening the door for the rise of mammals. Currently, the sixth extinction is on track to dwarf the fifth. What -- or more correctly -- who is to blame this time? As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy, and he is us." The causes of this mass die-off are many: overpopulation, loss of habitat, global warming, species exploitation (the black market for rare animal parts is the third-largest illegal trade in the world, outranked only by weapons and drugs). With no foreshadowing -- or time to call an exorcist -- out came this chilling refrain: " . . . You can hear the warning -- GLOBAL WARMING . . . B) Further song lyrics scolded selfish adults (that would be us) for polluting our planet and causing a warming scourge that would, in no short order, kill all the polar bears and threaten the birds and bees. Laboratory tests found the so-called "nanodiscs", around 60 billionths of a metre thick, could be used to disrupt the membranes of cancer cells, causing them to self-destruct. The discs are made from an iron-nickel alloy, which move when subjected to a magnetic field, damaging the cancer cells, the report published in Nature Materials said. One of the studys authors, Elena Rozhlova of Argonne National Laboratory in the United States, said subjecting the discs to a low magnetic field for around ten minutes was enough to destroy 90 percent of cancer cells in tests. Ormus,Monatomic Gold,is it an Anti-ageing Superfood?clipped by: ormusclippers remarks: t is known that both iridium and rhodium have anti-ageing properties, while ruthenium and platinum compounds interact with the DNA and the cellular body. It is also known that gold and the platinum metals, in their monatomic high-spin state, can activate the endocrinal glandular system in a way that heightens awareness, perception and aptitude to extraordinary levels. In this regard, it is considered that the high-spin powder of gold has a distinct effect upon the pineal gland, increasing melatonin production. Likewise, the monatomic powder of iridium has a similar effect on the serotonin production of the pituitary gland, and would appear to reactivate the bodys "junk DNA" along with the under-used and unused parts of the brain. White Powder Gold Ormus, Monatomic Gold Rediscovered Quite by chance, the mysteries of this long-forgotten science were rediscovered quite recently. Not only did mfkzt re-emerge to find its place at the forefront of quantum physics research, but the stories of the Ark of the Covenant, the accounts of lightning, levitation and other godly attributes of the ancient texts, quite suddenly became modern scientific reality. Video Scenes Pulled from Peoples Thoughtsclipped by: chestnut501clippers remarks: ?Some scenes decode better than others,? said Gallant. ?We can decode talking heads really well. But a camera panning quickly across a scene confuses the algorithm. Dr. Gallant and his colleague Shinji Nishimoto have used fMRI to scan the brains of two patients as they watched videos. "A computer program was used to search for links between the configuration of shapes, colors and movements in the videos, and patterns of activity in the patients? visual cortex. "It was later fed more than 200 days? worth of YouTube internet clips and asked to predict which areas of the brain the clips would stimulate if people were watching them. "Finally, the software was used to monitor the two patients? brains as they watched a new film and to reproduce what they were seeing based on their neural activity alone. "Remarkably, the computer program was able to display continuous footage of the films they were watching ? albeit with blurred images." This appears to be the first instance in which video scenes were recovered; previous work has been done to recover spatial memories seen in the hippocampus via fMRI. Huckabee Releases Statement, Judge Thomas J. Felnagle Set Bail For Maurice Clemmonsclipped by: merrieclippers remarks: I?ve been monitoring the SPD police scanner throughout the day.
