The baby fell through the air and when she landed, "he pretty much got the top and I got the diaper end, or the bottom half, or whatever you call it," Lemire said. Officials said the baby had fallen 40 feet, but Lemire said that was incorrect. The fall was 28 feet, perhaps 30, he said. "Like I said, Im a remodeling contractor so Im pretty good at the heights." The researchers also found that this period of increase risk correlated with increased levels of pesticides in surface water across the United States. Studying all 30.1 million births which occurred in the U.S. between 1996 and 2002, the researchers found a strong association between the increased number of birth defects in children of women whose last menstrual period occurred in April, May, June or July and elevated levels of nitrates, atrazine and other pesticides in surface water during the same months this is the first study to link their increased seasonal concentration in surface water with the peak in birth defects in infants conceived in the same months. Earth Hour Definitely Isn?t a Bunch of Crapclipped by: merrieclippers remarks: I pulled up to Al?s house, located in the posh Belle Meade section of Nashville, at 8:48pm ? right in the middle of Earth Hour. I found that the main spotlights that usually illuminate his 9,000 square foot mansion were dark, but several of the lights inside the house were on. In fact, most of the windows were lit by the familiar blue-ish hue indicating that floor lamps and ceiling fixtures were off, but TV screens and computer monitors were hard at work. (In other words, his house looked the way most houses look about 1:45am when their inhabitants are distractedly watching ?Cheaters? or ?Chelsea Lately? reruns.) Okay, maybe it?s not fair to hold the President of the Environment to the same standard as everybody else. You celebrated Earth Hour last Saturday night, didn?t you? But the larger issue lighting up the idea seems to be the battered American economy. In February, California state lawmaker Tom Ammiano proposed legislation that would regulate the cultivation and sale of marijuana, with a potential tax windfall of more than $1 billion to help bail out the state from a severe budget crisis. President Obama found himself responding to a question that had been voted among the most popular of those submitted by the public: whether the controlled sale and taxation of marijuana could help stimulate the US economy. "The answer is no, I don?t think that is a good strategy to grow the economy." The issue of taxation just cropped up in another intriguing way. The Drug Enforcement Administration caused a stir in San Francisco on Wednesday when it raided a locally permitted medical marijuana dispensary. Tags: global warming Workers say Obama treated autos worse than Wall Stclipped by: infidel70DETROIT (AP) -- Many assembly line autoworkers reacted with skepticism and anger Monday to the Obama administrations tough tactics, which stoked long-simmering feelings that the people who put the country on wheels get treated differently than the wizards of Wall Street. Many workers -- not generally known for their affection toward executives -- even sympathized with Rick Wagoner, who was forced to step down as chief executive of General Motors Corp. He was by turns called a "sacrificial lamb," "scapegoat" and "fall guy." "We knew someone was going to have to take the proverbial `bullet, and it would have made it a lot easier to accept that had the CEOs of the banks also been required to give up their jobs," said Jim Graham, president of a union local in Lordstown, Ohio, where GM produces the Cobalt and Pontiac G5 fuel-efficient cars. Unstable Activation and Why Parachutists Dieclipped by: clip-on-tieclippers remarks: It might be thought that it is the risk that the parachute won?t open, but in a dissertation he is defending at Umeå University in Sweden on March 27, Anton Westman shows that carelessness or lack of skill in controlling your body or your parachute through the air is considerably more dangerous. In both skydiving (jumping from aircraft) and BASE jumping (from stationary objects), instability in free fall is a fatal risk factor. Jumping from an airplane into the wind rushing by feels roughly like diving into a swift current of water, and there is a risk that beginners will lose control and start tumbling around in the new environment, which can lead to unstable activation of the parachute with subsequent tangling of its lines and even late parachute activation. When you jump from the ledge of a cliff, it?s not as windy, but this can in fact be a danger, since for the first few seconds you don?t get any help from rushing wind to control your body and straighten up if you should fall forward and start tumbling around. Just as in skydiving, there is a risk of unstable or late parachute activation. The dissertation shows that many injuries are a result of ?pilot error? on the part of the jumper. lazy postie hoarded letters for 2 yearsclipped by: doodleiciousclippers remarks: omg! this is loopy! The top U.S. diplomat told reporters Tuesday that the Obama administration has quit using that line to describe the effort to fight terrorism around the world. Clinton spoke as she headed to Europe for a week of diplomatic meetings. The phrase "war on terror" is widely disliked in Europe and elsewhere overseas, where even close U.S. allies suggested it was overly militaristic and perhaps counterproductive. It is also now associated with a range of Bush-era policies such as harsh interrogation practices that President Barack Obama has pledged to abandon. Then-President George W. Bush used the phrase as a rallying cry after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. Earlier this month, the Obama administration said that it was abandoning another one of Mr. Bushs key phrases: enemy combatant. 70 tons of explosives smuggled into Gazaclipped by: clip-on-tieclippers remarks: Dozens of tons of explosives have been smuggled into the Strip since Israel concluded its three-week offensive against the Hamas leadership in January, Diskin said. Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin on Sunday briefed the cabinet on ongoing efforts to stem the smuggling of weapons into the Gaza Strip. Diskin added, since the end of Operation Cast Lead, the express goal of which was to bring an end to rocket fire from Gaza into Israel, 45 tons of raw materials for the production of weapons have been smuggled into the Strip, along with 22 tons of standard explosives, as well as dozens of rockets, mortar shells, and anti-aircraft missiles. "Organizations other than Hamas," Diskin went on to say, "are pursuing plans to kidnap [Israeli] soldiers and to carry out terror attacks from Sinai into Israel as well as in the West Bank." Since the end of Operation Cast Lead, and especially since Israels alleged airstrike on an arms convoy headed for Gaza in Sudan, which was reported in the foreign press, Egypt has begun mobilizing forces on its border with Sudan to prevent the smuggling of weapons into Gaza. The Science Of Sensory Deprivation

On Tuesday, six people will be voluntarily locked into a cloister of cramped, hermetically sealed tubes woven inside a Moscow research facility the size of a high school gymnasium. And they must stay inside for 105 days.

Researchers solve mystery of deep-sea fish with tubular eyes and transparent head

Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute recently solved the half-century-old mystery of a fish with tubular eyes and a transparent head. Ever since the "barreleye" fish Macropinna microstoma was first described in 1939, marine biologists have known that its tubular eyes are very good at collecting light. However, the eyes were believed to be fixed in place and seemed to provide only a "tunnel-vision" view of whatever was directly above the fishs head. A new paper by Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler shows that these unusual eyes can rotate within a transparent shield that covers the fishs head. This allows the barreleye to peer up at potential prey or focus forward to see what it is eating.

SPANKING is stressful at first, but it could bring consenting couples closer together. Thats the implication of two studies of hormonal changes associated with sadomasochistic (S&M) activities including spanking, bondage and flogging.
Its important to note that levels of both hormones dropped back down in couples who enjoyed the experience, Marazziti says. "When sexual intercourse is consensual it is not stressful - even if it is extreme sex."

Most likely, you will decide on the next move based on your reading of the overall position.
But in the endgame, with few pieces standing on the board, it is possible to make a deeper analysis and this often makes the difference between a win and a draw or loss. But it is easier said than done, as even experienced players sometimes fail to see the right moves available as it is, or fail to identify a bad move from the opponent that could be exploited.

Thing is, the folks that listen to this dolt, dont realize hes using them to line his pockets even further, while wanting us to keep on paying what we cant afford to pay any longer. Ive been on both sides of this issue like a lot of people. Ive paid an excessive amount of taxes, and Ive been defined as middle class during another time in my life. I cant say that it ever occurred to me to be upset at the thought of paying a little more than most. After all, if you make more, it doesnt really affect you at all. Of course, if youre greedy like Limbaugh, thats different. Everything is relative.

Limbaugh: If Obama fails, America is saved
By David Neiwert Tuesday Mar 31, 2009 6:45amBased on what weve seen with General Motors and the banks, if he fails, America is saved. Barack Obamas policies and their failure is the only hope weve got to maintain the America of our founding.
I think the best way to understand Obama -- and I cant say this enough -- he really believes it his job to return the nations wealth to its rightful -- quote unquote, rightful owners. And that means he believes the people who have wealth have stolen it, from those who have no wealth. Its been unfair achieved and accrued. And its his job to take it and redistribute it. And thats what he means by sacrifice. When he talks about sacrifice, hes talking about raising your taxes, taking your assets, and giving them to other people who he thinks you stole them from, who are thus more deserving.
Sorry, Andrew, but youre sadly mistaken. We hear Rush Limbaugh all too much.

Mr Jones, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, now faces court action for driving without due care and attention.
His BMW nearly plunged down a 100ft cliff in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, on Sunday.
He was only stopped from falling after the vehicle rammed into a wire fence.
Police and rescue teams then spent nine hours recovering his car following the incident.
The 43-year-old, who works as a driver, said he relies on his sat nav for his job and described the incident as a "nightmare".
He told the Halifax Evening Courier: "It kept insisting the path was a road, even as it was getting narrower and steeper, so I just trusted it.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tens of thousands of Americans, from teenagers to baby boomers, soon will get a fresh chance to lend a helping hand in a time of need after Congress voted Tuesday to expand ways for people to serve the country and each other.
The House voted 275-149 for a $5.7 billion bill that takes ambitious steps on public service, including tripling the number of positions in the Clinton-era AmeriCorps program, its largest expansion since the agencys creation in 1993, and establishing a fund to help nonprofit organizations recruit and manage more volunteers.
Congress was sending the bill to President Barack Obama, who often cites his years as a Chicago community organizer for giving him his political start. Obama has made bolstering national service programs a high priority, and in his overall budget proposal has called for more than $1.1 billion for the programs, an increase of more than $210 million.

The solution: Provide the permission to use the bus lanes for cars which carry 3 or more adults during busy hours. How it works: Find people from the neighbourhood or on the route that has a similar destination and share the car with them. When the passengers are 3 or more they can use the bus lanes to reach their destination. This can be done creating a website for people to find their fellow passengers.

Thats why Sundays front-page Washington Post story by Peter Finn and Joby Warrick is such a blow to the last remaining torture apologists.

Graham Cluley of the British security firm Sophos confirmed that Conficker is programmed "to hunt for new instructions on April 1."
However, he added, "This does not mean that anything is going to happen, or that the worm is actually going to do anything. Simply, it is scheduled to hunt a wider range of Web sites for instructions on that date."
One strange thing about Conficker is that no one yet has any idea what it is programmed to do.
A worst-case scenario for April 1 would be for all the worlds millions of infected computers to receive simultaneous instructions to attack, or to flood the Internet with spam e-mail.
"April 1 is a classic date for anything like this to go off," he said. "But I really would hate to say that April 1 is going to be unlike any other day."
