Christians are to blame for failings in public schools clipped by: Eaglewings clippers remarks: Could it be that mindless, idiotic writers of these editorial comments are the real devils? They mouth empty words and pontificate on matters they know absolutely nothing about in a vane attempt to appear informed and enlightened. Even a fool is considered wise if he keeps his mouth shut but once he starts to orate he removes all doubt about it.
We are, as far as urban public education is concerned, essentially at rock bottom. We are now at a point where we are essentially churning out ignorant teens who are becoming ignorant adults and society as a whole will pay dearly, very soon, and if you think the hordes of easily terrified, mindless fundamentalist evangelical Christian lemmings have been bad for the soul of this country, just wait.
Is he saying "easily terrified, mindless fundamentalist evangelical Christian lemmings" are responsible for the decline of public education? Or is he saying we all know this current ETMFECL horde is pretty bad for the nation, but this coming group of airheads is going to be even more dumb, more easily snookered, and consequently, really, really bad?
If anything, teens with a religious orientation pull against the trends outlined by Mr. Morford. Religious teens are more likely to be involved in their communities and schools, less likely to abuse drugs, and less likely to bully peers.

Hey Dad, dont I have a say in this? clipped by: ljsdesign
The father of a 12-year-old boy told the Oregon Supreme Court that he should be allowed to arrange for his son to be circumcised, even if his ex-wife has concerns about the procedure.
James Boldt, who converted to Judaism in 2004 and has custody of the boy, argues that the circumcision is a decision best left to the custodial parent
The mother, Lia Boldt, had appealed to the high court after a lower court judge in 2004 sided with the father in the case. The judge ordered him not to have the circumcision done until the appeals were exhausted
Lia Boldt argues that that judge should have given her the chance to present evidence, in her efforts to regain custody of the boy, that the circumcision could physically and psychologically harm him
The child deserves a hearing," Geishker said. "This is a serious procedure on a 12-year-old. Most men, I think, would agree

Sermonizing On The Sex Lives Of Animals clipped by: debbyski clippers remarks: A clipper recently made this comment :"I suppose since Jesus did not give us some clear, strong, unmistakable message against sex with animals, then that is ok too." Its beyond sad that particular clipper would have to resort to such insults to make their point.
The format for our discussion was classic high-school debating team. We would be discussing the question, ?Should Same-Sex Marriage Be Made Legal in the United States??
Imagine my surprise when Judge White kicked off his portion of the debate by implying that all gay people were mentally ill.
He then went on at length about people having sex with animals, which, according to the judge, would logically follow from the legalization of same-sex marriage.
Then he talked more about sex with animals.
The bottom line is that there are no good legal reasons to oppose same-sex marriage.
I had looked forward to spirited debate with the enemy and all I came away with was?apart from disrespect?a deep sadness. Perhaps more than anything, my sadness was rooted in the judge?s constant invocation of bestiality to attack same-sex relationships. How sad that a man who professes Christianity?or any religion, really?would feel compelled to stoop so low to score points.

To someone less smitten with turkeys, the birds Mr. Reese is now trying to save on his Good Shepherd Turkey Ranch, an 80-mile drive straight north from Wichita, look as strange as space aliens. They have names like Narragansett and White Holland and once were the deeply flavored anchors of the Thanksgiving table.
On Sunday, Mr. Reese picked out the turkeys he believes will pass the best genetic traits to the next generation. They are the birds with the right markings, the best builds for a life on pasture and the right ratio of meat to bone so his turkeys don?t end up like the average supermarket bird, with 70 percent of their bodies breast meat. The rest of his turkeys made their first and last trip off the farm, headed to a Nebraska slaughterhouse. By mid-November, they will be in the kitchens of people who paid as much as $209 a bird.

Is an Israeli strike on Iran Imminent? clipped by: willhelm
A claim by President Ahmadinejad that Iran has 3,000 working uranium-enriching centrifuges sent a tremor across the world yesterday amid fears that Israel would respond by bombing the country?s nuclear facilities. Military sources in Washington said that the existence of such a large number could be a ?tipping point?, triggering an Israeli air strike. The Pentagon is reluctant to take military action against Iran, but officials say that Israel is a ?different matter?. Amid the international uproar, British MPs who were to have toured the nuclear facility were backing out of their Iran trip.
a US defence official told The Times yesterday: ?Israel could do something when they get to around 3,000 working centrifuges. The Pentagon is minded to wait a little longer.? US experts say 3,000 machines running for long periods could make enough enriched uranium for an atomic bomb within a year.
Tehran says it plans to expand its enrichment programme to up to 54,000 centrifuges

Veterens make up 1 in 4 homeless in US clipped by: kkcapricorn clippers remarks: This is pathetic. Somethings got to give.
WASHINGTON - Veterans make up one in four homeless people in the United States, though they are only 11 percent of the general adult population, according to a report to be released Thursday.
homelessness is not just a problem among middle-age and elderly veterans. Younger veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are trickling into shelters and soup kitchens seeking services, treatment or help with finding a job.
Veterans Affairs Department has identified 1,500 homeless veterans from the current wars and says 400 of them have participated in its programs specifically targeting homelessness.
The Alliance to End Homelessness, a public education nonprofit, based the findings of its report on numbers from Veterans Affairs and the Census Bureau. 2005 data estimated that 194,254 homeless people out of 744,313 on any given night were veterans
the VA says that 20 years ago, the estimated number of veterans who were homeless on any given night was 250,000.

Anti smoking shot shows promise clipped by: pokkets clippers remarks: The injections prevent nicotine reaching the brain, but still allows some nicotine in, to reduce withdrawal symptoms. The shots are described as an immunization against the nicotine rush, and compare with other quitting methods such as nicotine replacement. The first big step before all treatment, is the honest desire to quit. Testing is still at mid stage
By MARILYNN MARCHIONE A shot that robs smokers of the nicotine buzz from cigarettes showed promise in mid-stage testing and may someday offer a radically new way to kick a dangerous habit. In a study, more than twice as many people given five of the shots stopped smoking than those given fewer or phony shots -- about 15 percent versus 6 percent after one year.
and could be an important new tool for people who have failed to quit on other methods
"It clearly shows promise" and merits a definitive study, said Dr. Frank Vocci, director of medications development at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, which has given $8 million for the research
"Theres merit in it," but it wont be available tomorrow, said the lead researcher, Dr. Stephen Rennard of the University of Nebraska.
The treatment keeps nicotine from reaching the brain, taking the fun out of smoking and hopefully making it easier to give up. Some nicotine still gets in, possibly easing withdrawal, the main reason quitters relapse.

France Will Stand Shoulder-To-Shoulder With U.S. clipped by: merrie clippers remarks: In an address full of historical references to the founding of the United States, its culture and political, philosophical, and social values, President Sarkozy paid tribute to two centuries of friendship, saying that despite differences the two nations will stand together. "In times of difficulty, in times of hardship, America and France have always stood side by side, they have always supported one another, they have helped one another, and each of us, America and France, have fought for each others freedom," said President Sarkozy. "I remember the Berlin crisis and President Kennedy who unhesitatingly risked engaging the United States in the most destructive of wars so that Europe may preserve the freedom for which the American people had already sacrificed so much," said Mr. Sarkozy. "To forget that, for a man of my generation, would be tantamount to self-denial."
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, addressing a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress, has pledged to strengthen ties with the United States, saying Americans can count on France in the war on terrorism and extremism. VOA Correspondent Dan Robinson reports from Capitol Hill, where the French leader received a warm welcome from members of Congress.
U.S. sacrifices for Europe, and its help with Europes reconstruction after World War II cannot be forgotten, Sarkozy said, along with Americas role in the Cold War.
"The terrorists had thought that they would weaken you, but they made you greater," he said. "And the people of America were admired worldwide for its courage. That is the truth
"I say this as I stand before you: The prospect of an Iran armed with nuclear weapons is unacceptable for France," said Nicolas Sarkozy.
President Sarkozy also repeated his call for Europe to assume more of the burden for its own security

Thanks and Praise clipped by: jatfla clippers remarks: Well, this is different. A momentary exhibition of freedom of religion in, of all places, Iraq.
Thanks and Praise: I photographed men and women, both Christians and Muslims, placing a cross atop the St. John?s Church in Baghdad. They had taken the cross from storage and a man washed it before carrying it up to the dome.
A Muslim man had invited the American soldiers from ?Chosen? Company 2-12 Cavalry to the church, where I videotaped as Muslims and Christians worked and rejoiced at the reopening of St John?s, an occasion all viewed as a sign of hope.
The Iraqis asked me to convey a message of thanks to the American people. ? Thank you, thank you,? the people were saying. One man said, ?Thank you for peace.? Another man, a Muslim, said ?All the people, all the people in Iraq, Muslim and Christian, is brother.? The men and women were holding bells, and for the first time in memory freedom rang over the ravaged land between two rivers. (Videotape to follow.)

Savage Capitalism in the Post-Communist World clipped by: ouyangwulong clippers remarks: Although China has grabbed most of the headlines for poisonous toys, Russia has quietly gone to pieces as well. What is happening in these countries is not merely the residual effects of the failure of communism, it is a violently selfish mentality, perhaps born in the desperation of bread lines, but now blooming in the vacuum of law and order created by the collapse of the Communist system.
In China and Russia both we see the values espoused by George Bush and his Neo-Conservative gang taken to their horrific logical extreme. Customers have become a commodity. Wealth is the only guarantor of safety and power. Corporations and corruption rule the government. The fanatical pursuit of wealth for its own sake has taken over, leaving the average citizen to fend for themselves in a frightening wilderness of indifference and exploitation.
The blazing fires of this economic explosion are fueled by an icy detachment from the basic human traits of empathy and compassion.

Finn school shooter uses YouTube before it happened clipped by: caissie_tab
The posting on YouTube of a clip announcing a school shooting in Finland before it happened shows how self-shot videos have become the favored means for modern killers wanting to get their message across.
Seven children and the school principal were killed on Wednesday when a fellow pupil opened fire at a school in southern Finland, hours after a clip posted on video sharing Web site YouTube predicted a massacre there. The shooter later died in hospital after shooting himself in the head.
The YouTube video, set to a hard-driving song called "Stray Bullet," shows a still photo of a low building that appears to be the Jokela High School.

Iran is no threat clipped by: masbury clippers remarks: No nukes, no "wipe off the map" - its all Bushite hokum
Iran has never been able to build up conventional military power capable of significant regional power projection, let alone global power projection.
The US claims concerning Iranian interference in both Iraq and Afghanistan ignore the reality that both nations border Iran, both nations were invaded and occupied by the United States, not Iran, and that Iran has a history of conflict with both nations that dictates a keen interest concerning the internal domestic affairs of both nations.
Iran as a nation represents absolutely no threat to the national security of the United States, or of its major allies in the region, including Israel.
Ahmadinejad never articulated an Iranian policy objective to destroy Israel, rather noting that Israel?s policies would lead to its ?vanishing from the pages of time.? Second, and perhaps most important, Ahmadinejad does not make foreign policy decisions on the part of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Mr. Cheng later told reporters he was not saying China would buy more euros and dump dollars. But as markets opened across Europe, those words echoed as an invitation to sell the American currency.
A Chinese central bank vice director, Xu Jian, said the dollar was ?losing its status as the world currency,?

Long-term pill users risk more arterial plaque clipped by: pokkets clippers remarks: The message is to cut other risk factors like smoking, eating more healthily, exercising more and lowering cholesterol. This is an old message, but more and more heart disease can be prevented if some of the causes are eliminated. Perhaps on a priority basis. As always the best preventative measures, are exercise and a healthy diet.
Women who use the contraceptive pill for years risk a build-up of plaque in their arteries, according to a study released this week.
While the European study suggests long-term pill users may therefore be at increased risk of heart attack or stroke, the researchers say their findings are no need for alarm.
"Bottom line - dont discontinue your pill suddenly. Dont panic. Dont call your gynaecologist tomorrow morning," says lead researcher Dr Ernst Rietzschel of Ghent University in Belgium, whose team presented the results at an American Heart Association meeting this week.
Rietzschels team studied 1301 women aged 35-55. Of these, 81% had used the pill for an average 13 years.
The researchers measured plaque levels using a technique called vascular echography.
They saw a rise of 20-30% in arterial plaque in two big arteries - the carotid in the neck and the femoral in the leg - for each decade of use.

Ship emissions kill 60,000 a year clipped by: pokkets clippers remarks: Most ships run on bunker fuel, which is cheaper than distillate, but more polluting. Many freighters are registered in countries with few regulations. It also occurred to me that the bunker fuel was a product from oil refineries, and companies who need to get rid of it somehow to avoid it lining the bottom of the barrel. Just burn the evidence
Emissions from ocean-going ships are responsible for about 60,000 deaths a year from heart and lung-related cancers, according to research that calls for tougher fuel standards.
Freight ships emit particulate pollution, sulfur and nitrogen oxide, all of which can harm health kilometres away
Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong, three of the worlds five busiest ports, are likely to suffer disproportionate impacts from ship-related emissions, the researchers say.
"For a long time theres been this perception that ship emissions are out there in the ocean and they dont really affect anyone on land and I think this study shows that this is clearly false," says David Marshall, senior counsel at the Boston-based Clean Air Task Force, which co-commissioned the study.

New Planet, We are not alone (1) clipped by: BobbyDelray clippers remarks: Does this incredible discovery mean we are no longer unique? Pictures are fascinating. Is their life out there?
NASA scientists said they discovered a fifth planet orbiting a star outside our own solar system and say the discovery suggests there are many solar systems that are, just like our own, packed with planets.
The new planet is much bigger than Earth, but is a similar distance away from its sun, a star known as 55 Cancri, the astronomers said on Tuesday.
The giant planets that orbit 55 Cancri, as depicted in this artists concept, are inhospitable to life. But astronomers say its possible water could exist on a moon of the newly discovered planet.
Life could conceivably live on the surface of a moon that might be orbiting the new planet, but such a moon would be far too small to detect using current methods, the astronomers said.
"The star is very much like our own sun. It has about the same mass and is about the same age as our sun," Fischer told reporters.

Dimensions Of The One Machine clipped by: BartendingBear clippers remarks: Many more dimensions at the source, authored by Kevin Kelly.
The next stage in human technological evolution is a single thinking/web/computer that is planetary in dimensions. This planetary computer will be the largest, most complex and most dependable machine we have ever built. It will also be the platform that most business and culture will run on. The web is the initial OS of this new global machine, and all the many gadgets we possess are the windows into its core. Future gizmos will be future gateways into the same One Machine.
Today it contains approximately 1.2 billion personal computers, 2.7 billion cell phones, 1.3 billion land phones, 27 million data servers, and 80 million wireless PDAs. The processor chips of all these parts are feeding the computation of the internet/web/telecommunications system. So how many transistors are powering the Machine?
Somewhere between 2020 and 2040 the Machine should exceed 6 billion HB. That is, it will exceed the processing power of humanity.

Get Him The Hell Off This List clipped by: debbyski
John Anderson of Minneapolis, who turned 6 on July 4, is among those who have been inconvenienced.
He was first stopped at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in 2004, when his family took him for his first airplane ride to Disney World. "We checked in at the ticket counter, and the woman said in a stern voice, Who is John Anderson? " says his mother, Christine Anderson. "I pointed to my stroller."
Christine Anderson says she has tried repeatedly to get her childs name cleared, but she cant find the right forms on the TSA website and none have come in the mail after officials promised to send them. "No one can give any answers to why my son is on the list or really how to get him off," she says.

Sexy Walk to Put Men Off Scent clipped by: abailart
A sexy swing of the hips may attract admiring glances, but it is not a covert sign a woman is ready to breed, according to researchers.
A Queens University, Ontario, team examined volunteers walks and the levels of sex hormones in their saliva. They found those with alluring walks were the furthest away from ovulation.
The women who were most fertile at the time of the experiment walked with fewer hip movements and with their knees closer together. She now thinks the findings tally with other research suggesting that women want to conceal their ovulation from males other than their chosen partner.
A sexy walk would be too obvious, so women are thought to use changes in smell and facial expressions that can be experienced only at close range.
If women are trying to protect themselves from sexual assault at times of peak fertility, it would make sense for them to advertise attractiveness... when they are not fertile

Key to False Memories Uncovered clipped by: wildcat
Duke University Medical Center neuroscientists say the places a memory is processed in the brain may determine how someone can be absolutely certain of a past event that never occurred.
These findings could help physicians better appreciate the memory changes that accompany normal aging or even lead to tools for the early diagnosis of Alzheimers disease, according to Duke neuroscientist Roberto Cabeza, Ph.D.
Information retrieved from memory is simultaneously processed in two specific regions of the brain, each of which focuses on a different aspect of an past event. The medial temporal lobe (MTL), located at the base of the brain, focuses on specific facts about the event. The frontal parietal network (FPN), located at the top of the brain, is more likely to process the global gist of the event.
The specific brain area accessed when one tries to remember something can ultimately determine whether or not we think the memory is true or false, the researchers found.

Sunbathe to prevemt Breast Cancer ? clipped by: murieleileen
| Sunbathing Cuts Breast Cancer Risk in Half |
Exposure to sunlight may reduce your risk of advanced breast cancer, according to new research from Stanford University.
The study followed 4,000 women between the ages of 35 and 79, and evaluated the effects of long-term sun exposure. Women with a light skin color who had high sun exposure had half the risk of developing advanced breast cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the breast) as women with low sun exposure.
High sun exposure was defined as having dark skin on your forehead, since your forehead is typically exposed to the sun often.
Sun exposure may work to prevent cancer because it increases the levels of vitamin D in your body. While you can get some vitamin D from your diet, up to 90 percent comes from your exposure to sunlight.

From molecules to the Milky Way: dealing with the data deluge clipped by: wildcat
Most people have a few gigabytes of files on their PC. In the next decade, astronomers expect to be processing 10 million gigabytes of data every hour from the Square Kilometre Array telescope.
And with DNA sequencing getting cheaper, scientists will be data mining possibly hundreds of thousands of personal human genome databases, each of 50 gigabytes.
CSIRO has a new research program aimed at helping science and business cope with masses of data from areas like astronomy, gene sequencing, surveillance, image analysis and climate modelling.
One aspect of the problem is that methods that work with small data sets don?t necessarily work with large ones.
?This will need major developments in computer infrastructure and computational tools. It involves IT people, mathematicians and statisticians, image technologists, and other specialists from across CSIRO all working together in a very focussed way,? he says.

Happy Helvetica! Invisible Art clipped by: abailart
f youre seeking some suggestions for celebrating Helveticas 50th birthday, might I recommend a trip to New Yorks Museum of Modern Art, which is presenting an exhibition devoted to the typeface? To mark the occasion, the MOMA acquired an original set of 36-point lead Helvetica letterforms. Of course, I dont need to tell you to fly American Airlines to get there (their fuselage bears the grand imprint of Helvetica, as does and Lufthansa). The Road to Ruin: US Economic Fragility clipped by: abailart clippers remarks: A metaphor for our times. The collective hallucination of concepts and statistics as reality, and a deeper reality.
There are literally trillions of dollars of liquidity slushing around the world keen to hold "things" of value. Liquidity sources include the massive central bank reserve holdings as well as funds at the disposal of the sovereign wealth funds. Importantly, the more apparent becomes U.S. financial fragility, the keener they are to stockpile real "things".
How much would the Chinese government, with their $1.4 TN stockpile of chiefly dollar reserves, be willing these days to pay for the necessary energy resources to sustain their economic boom and stem social unrest?
The legacy of years of runaway U.S. Credit excess includes many trillions of dollar liquidity balances circulating around the globe. Chinese reserves, for example, have inflated almost seven-fold in just five years.

A collective groan in the office when I mutter that I might write about the UNs ?state of the planet? report. What a turn-off: gloomy stats about mankind changing the weather, and destroying species and forests.
Environmentalists may get off on climate porn, but most people just turn away. ?If it was really so bad, theyd do something,? says one colleague, without specifying who ?they? are. The human tendency to convince yourself that everything is OK, because no one else is worried, is deeply ingrained.
Our tendency to shrug off responsibility seems to hold true even when we ourselves are in danger.
But the smoke is coming up through the vent. If enough people start talking about the smoke, perhaps others will start to see it too. And if enough people act, the rest may follow. For that, it seems, is human nature.

"This Is A War" ? understanding self-esteem clipped by: Lenoxus clippers remarks: I found this by Googling something or other about self-esteem. Its nice when a scientific-ish essay doesnt try to be counterintuitive to draw attention. It fits somewhat with the philosophy Ive been developing about the idea of self-esteem, and why I think it is (or should be) close to irrelevant.
Psychologists told us we could give our children high self-esteem by complimenting and praising them often. And they said you could protect yourself by making an effort to think well of yourself - say good things to yourself, repeat affirmations, acknowledge your good traits, etc.
Recent research at Wake Forest University might be turning that popular philosophy completely upside down. The funny thing is, when all the smoke has cleared, what we have left bears a remarkable resemblance to simple common sense.

"What is Art?: Who Cares? clipped by: abailart
Sometime in the middle of the 19th century painting started to get a little screwed up. It began to worry. Painters stopped simply doing what they were doing and started spending more and more time trying to figure out what they were doing and why. They got into the "What Is?" question. "What is Painting?", "What is Art?" "What Is??"
Acknowledge death, move on. The answer that the book thus gives to the question ?What is Painting?? is simple and clear. The answer is ?Who cares??
An untenable metaphysics that asked the ?What is Painting?? question and tried to answer it with an absurd essentialism did great things, wonderful things. There is nothing more to be said, because that movement and that ideology is dying or already dead.

Direct gaze makes you more attractive clipped by: wildcat
Looking directly at someone makes you more attractive to them according to research published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, today (Wednesday 7 November, 2007).
Previous face preference research has mainly focused on physical attractiveness but this new research has investigated the effects of gaze direction, gender and expressions on peoples face preferences.
Participants were divided into four different groups and asked to rate the attractiveness of the images they were shown.
Dr Claire Conway, author of the study from the University of Aberdeen, found that identifying the factors that govern our face preferences is a complex process and whether we find people facially attractive is dependent on a combination of factors. For example, we are more attracted to happy faces, which are directly looking at us and are of the opposite sex.

House Passes Ban On Job Bias Against Gays clipped by: ljsdesign
The House on Wednesday approved the first federal ban on job discrimination against gays, lesbians and bisexuals
Passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act came despite protests from some gay rights supporters that the bill does not protect transgender workers. That term covers transsexuals, cross-dressers and others whose outward appearance does not match their gender at birth
The measure would make it illegal for employers to make decisions about hiring, firing, promoting or paying an employee based on sexual orientation. It would exempt churches and the military
Protections for transgender workers were in the original bill. But Democratic leaders found they would lose support from moderate and conservative Democrats by including transgender employees in the final bill

Draft May Be Unavoidable clipped by: debbyski
LINCOLN ? Sen. Chuck Hagel, speaking to an audience of Lincoln High School students, warned Tuesday that the nation may need to turn to compulsory military service "or some kind of draft" to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Questioned after his speech, Hagel, R-Neb., said he is not calling for reinstatement of the military draft.
But he said the growing difficulty of maintaining an adequate volunteer military force is "a reality."
"Im just stating the obvious. At some point were going to have to make a decision on how to attract a quality force," he said.
Hagel told the Lincoln students that the burdens of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are being carried by too small a share of the nations population.
"We have more than 300 million people in this country, but less than 1 percent of our population has to bear all of the burden, to make all of the sacrifices, to do all the fighting and all the dying for the rest of us," he said.

A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100-yard dash. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win.
All, that is, except one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed down and looked back. They all turned around and went back. Every one of them.
One girl with Downs Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, "This will make it better."
All nine linked arms and walked across the finish line together.
Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes. People who were there are still telling the story. Why? Because deep down we know this one thing:

Exercise - Brain building secret clipped by: Fast T friend
FEELING a little less mentally quick than you did a few years ago? Maybe you are among the many people who do ?brain exercises? like sudoku to slow the cognitive decline associated with aging. We?ve got a better suggestion.
For people whose work is unstimulating, having mentally challenging hobbies, like learning a new language or playing bridge, can help maintain cognitive performance. But the belief that any single brain exercise program late in life can act as a quick fix for general mental function is almost entirely faith-based.
One form of training, however, has been shown to maintain and improve brain health ? physical exercise.
Exercise is also strongly associated with a reduced risk of dementia late in life. People who exercise regularly in middle age are one-third as likely to get Alzheimer?s disease in their 70s as those who did not exercise. Camera men which arent exactly men clipped by: Fast T friend clippers remarks: And the Oscar goes to....
For photographers lacking training, experience and even the ability to click a shutter button, they produce remarkable pictures. Under the sea, deep in the woods and high in the sky, furry, feathery and leathery-skinned creatures are opening up vistas by taking cameras where no human can go.
The idea of mounting video cameras on animals came to Mr. Marshall in 1986 on a dive off Belize when a shark approached him. When the animal quickly turned away, he noticed a sucker fish clinging to it and came up with the idea that putting a camera in place of the sucker fish would allow witnessing the shark?s behavior without disturbing it.
?In studying foraging,? Dr. Rogers said at the meeting, ?you want to see how our animal models align with reality. With a camera, you actually see what they do. You don?t have to guess.?

The Presidency Is Now a Criminal Conspiracy clipped by: ianschneider clippers remarks: From its beginning as the most neglectful protection ever of the lives and safety of the American people ? into the most efficient and cynical exploitation of tragedy for political gain in this country?s history ? and, then, to the giddying prospect that you could do what the military fanatics did in Japan in the 1930s and remake a nation into a fascist state so efficient and so self-sustaining that the fascism would be nearly invisible.
But at last this frightful plan is ending with an unexpected crash, the shocking reality that no matter how thoroughly you might try to extinguish them, Mr. Bush, how thoroughly you tried to brand disagreement as disloyalty, Mr. Bush, there are still people like Daniel Levin who believe in the United States of America as true freedom, where we are better, not because of schemes and wars, but because of dreams and morals.
It is a fact startling in its cynical simplicity and it requires cynical and simple words to be properly expressed: The presidency of George W. Bush has now devolved into a criminal conspiracy to cover the ass of George W. Bush. All the petulancy, all the childish threats, all the blank-stare stupidity; all the invocations of World War III, all the sophistic questions about which terrorist attacks we wanted him not to stop, all the phony secrets; all the claims of executive privilege, all the stumbling tap-dancing of his nominees, all the verbal flatulence of his apologists?

Should ethicists be inside or outside a profession? clipped by: shunyax clippers remarks: Eliezer Yudkowsky -Research Fellow of the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence on this issue.
It seems to me that trying to separate ethics and engineering is like trying to separate the crafting of paintings into two independent specialties: a profession that?s in charge of pushing a paintbrush over a canvas, and a profession that?s in charge of artistic beauty but knows nothing about paint or optics.
Anyone who gives a part of themselves to a profession discovers a sense of beauty in it.
Like a sense of beauty, one?s native ethical sense must be continually used in order to develop further.
The way to develop a highly specialized sense of professional ethics is to do something, ethically, a whole bunch, until you get good at both the thing itself and the ethics part.
Thinking that ethics is a separate profession which judges engineers from above, is like thinking that math is a separate profession which judges engineers from above. If you?re doing ethics right, you can?t separate it from your profession.

THE BOTTLE OF WINE clipped by: thinkingblue clippers remarks:
For all of us who are married, were married, wish you were married, or wish you werent married, this is something to smile about the next time you see a bottle of wine:
Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road .
As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.
With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.
Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at EVERYTHING she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.
"What in bag?" asked the old woman.
Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, "Its a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."
The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said: "Good trade."

Getting (Anti-) Social, the Web 2.0 Way clipped by: crazy_witch clippers remarks: For all those who have enough of their on-line "friends"...
the Boston Globe ran a refreshing piece over the weekend about two relatively new (anti-) social apps that both "aim to put the hate back into online networking." "People are yearning to express the ridiculousness of some of the features of Facebook -- having all these friends that arent genuine," MIT doctoral student and creator of Enemybook Kevin Matulet told the Globe. "For some people, Enemybook is about expressing their distaste for political figures or celebrities. And for other people, it actually is about spreading hatred for their despised co-workers and exes," he continues.
Enemybook itself is a software application that sits in Facebook and lets you highlight nemeses on your personal page in order to facilitate the disconnecting process. As a progressive Christian it is often difficult to watch those who take the bully pulpit in the name of Christ but apparently forgot to bring Jesus along for their ride.
The stunning events of today should give all Christians a reason to pause and remember that we need to be ever so vigilant in who it is that we choose to follow.
That aside, no one can discount the clout Robertson has in Christian circles.
Budget woes impoverishing generations of people? Nope, doesn?t matter. Endless wars killing hundreds of thousands of God?s creations? Nope, doesn?t matter. Raping of the environment, pillaging our educational system, kids without healthcare, genocide in the Sudan? Nope, doesn?t matter
Christians were led to believe that the only issues that would matter to Jesus Himself, would be gay marriage and abortion.
They have embraced a political agenda over the agenda of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ deserves better than the hypocrisy of man.

Bay Area FBI agents wanting to find Iranian secret agents data-mined grocery store records in 2005 and 2006, hoping that tahini purchases would lead them to domestic terrorists, according to Congressional Quarterlys Jeff Stein. The head of the FBIs criminal investigations unit - Michael Mason - shut down the Total Falafel Awareness program, arguing it would be illegal to put someone on a terrorist watch list for simply sticking skewers into lamb, Stein reports.
The idea was that a spike in, say, falafel sales, combined with other data, would lead to Iranian secret agents in the south San Francisco-San Jose area.
The brainchild of top FBI counterterrorism officials Phil Mudd and Willie T. Hulon, according to well-informed sources, the project didn?t last long. It was torpedoed by the head of the FBIs criminal investigations division, Michael A. Mason, who argued that putting somebody on a terrorist list for what they ate was ridiculous ? and possibly illegal.

That?s when a pod of bottlenose dolphins intervened, forming a protective ring around Endris, allowing him to get to shore, where quick first aid provided by a friend saved his life.
?Truly a miracle,? Endris told TODAY?s Natalie Morales on Thursday.
The dolphins, which had been cavorting in the surf all along, showed up then. They circled him, keeping the shark at bay, and enabled Endris to get back on his board and catch a wave to the shore.

A 5-year-old peruvian: worlds youngest mother
Into the hospital at Pisco (Peru) came a tired, ragged Indian woman from the foothills of the Andes. She led by the hand a shy little girl, scarcely three feet tall, with chestnut braids and an enormously bulging abdomen. Pointing to the frightened child, the Indian woman begged Surgeon Geraldo Lozada to exorcise the evil spirits which had taken possession of her. Certain that little Lina Medina had an abdominal tumor, Dr. Lozada examined her, received the surprise of his life when he discovered she was eight months pregnant.
Dr. Lozada took her to Lima, the capital of Peru, prior to the surgery to have other specialists confirm that Lina was in fact pregnant. A month and a half later, on May 14, 1939, she gave birth to a boy by a caesarean section necessitated by her small pelvis.

Former AT&T technician and wiretapping whistle-blower Mark Klein traveled to the nations marble halls of power Wednesday, hoping to persuade lawmakers not to crush the lawsuit against AT&T that is largely based on his allegations that his former employer wiretapped the internet on behalf of the government.
Those documents detail how AT&T diverted portions of fiber optic internet cables, -included powerful snooping hardware and a fat fiber connection out of the room.
Even prior to the Senate Intelligence committees assent to the presidents push for immunity for the telecoms, Klein believed that Congress was helping the administration cover up the spying, according to an interview with Wired News in May.
Kleins stated intent for the visit is to stop Congress from giving immunity to well-connected telecom firms that the administration and its platoon of consent manufacturers say are being treated unfairly.

Pat Robertsons Endorsement: Blessing or Curse? clipped by: ouyangwulong clippers remarks: Leave it to national politics to turn a normal guy into Crazy McGee. Giuliani is campaigning so hard to the Republican fringe that he seems to be sabotaging the traits that might have made him appealing in a general election.
On the other hand, think about what Pat Robertson is saying:
"the defense of our population from the blood lust of Islamic terrorists"
W*$# the F@&#!!!!
Now imagine if a liberal candidate got endorsed by a national figure who talked about the "Blood lust of Christian Colonialism and Capitalist Neo-Fascism." That would pretty much be the end of the trail for that campaign. It is horrific that someone who could say something like this is actually thought of as an important endorsement. How many people seriously think like that? Are we really that ignorant and angry?
Why would anyone be proud to be endorsed by someone who sounds increasingly apocalyptic, paranoid, and deranged?
Giuliani wins endorsement from Pat Robertson
Rudolph Giuliani scored a big coup on Wednesday by winning the support of Pat Robertson, who, as one of the nations best-known televangelists, could help Giuliani reassure Republican voters who have been wary of his support for abortion rights.
Robertson, the founder and chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network, said in endorsing Giuliani in Washington, that he believes "the overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the blood lust of Islamic terrorists" and praised Giuliani as a "true fiscal conservative."
While Robertson did not mention Giulianis support of abortion rights, he said approvingly that Giuliani has "has assured the American people that his choices for judicial appointments will be men and women who share the judicial philosophy of John Roberts and Antonin Scalia," who have argued against Roe v. Market: In Rainbows worth about $6 clipped by: kmakice clippers remarks: The big missing piece of this report - how much did the band end up getting compared to CD sales?
When Radiohead invited their fans to pay as much - or as little - as they liked for a digital download of their new album, In Rainbows, it was hailed as the beginning of a new era for the struggling record industry. So what then, was the ultimate value of the ground-breaking album and its test of the constraints of the digital age? Around £2.90, it would seem.
Research revealed yesterday that a mere 38% of people downloading the album were willing to part with anything at all. Two thirds paid only the 45p charge for handling, according to ComScore, a digital measurement group.
During the first 29 days of October, 1.2 million people worldwide visited the In Rainbows site, with a significant percentage of visitors ultimately downloading the album.
It was widely seen as the most high-profile attempt yet to restructure the economics of a music industry struggling with the effects of digital piracy.

White House Trying To Limit Reach Of Criminal Law On Blackwater, Contractors clipped by: ratilfar clippers remarks: Well finally the Dems are doing what they where elected to do. Now if they would do the same for, oh I dont know, the Constitution, I would feel a lot better.
A tug of war has broken out between Congress and the Bush administration over legislation that would put private security contractors on a shorter legal leash.
The White House and Justice Department are trying to limit the reach of U.S. criminal law on Blackwater and other private war contractors. With a potential veto threat looming, several senators now want to alter the bill in a way that satisfies both the Bush administration and members of the House of Representatives, who overwhelmingly passed similar legislation last month.
But while the Bush administration is fighting the House formula for prosecuting private war contractors, it is not clear that its opposition will make any difference. The House bill passed by a veto-proof majority, with one Republican aide saying it was difficult to vote against a bill regulating contractors after the September incident in which Blackwater employees killed 17 Iraqi civilians.

Iraqi Goverment Plans to Confront Security Firms on Guns clipped by: ratilfar
BAGHDAD, Nov. 7 ? The Iraqi interior minister said Wednesday that he would authorize raids by his security forces on Western security firms to ensure that they were complying with tightened licensing requirements on guns and other weaponry, setting up the possibility of violent confrontations between the Iraqis and heavily armed Western guards.
Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani said Iraqi forces would ensure that new licensing rules were being observed.
The tightening of the requirements followed a shooting in September by one of those firms, Blackwater, that Iraqi authorities said left 17 Iraqis dead.
?Every company will be subject to such examination, and any company that does not follow the law will lose its license,? the minister, Jawad al-Bolani, said of the planned raids. ?They are called security companies. They are not called violate-the-law companies.?

FaceBook and My Space release targeted advertising. clipped by: Julespieri clippers remarks: I absolutely believe that social network advertising potential has only barely begun to be realized. These moves by Facebook and MySpace advance the ball.
But I am much more interested in new business models that leverage good old fashioned commerce on these sites. Buying stuff. Recommending products, and heck, even supporting causes with real currency, not just piles of pixels. Beyond the rich user data available, it is even more appealing to leverage the way real-world communications, gift-giving, and general interactions are being reiinvented on social networks. Social networkers are actually among the most statistically active e-commerce participants. They are teenagers (and older people) who are indeed pulling out credit cards and cash. They just dont yet have a way to do it in the company of their online friends.
"People can wax philosophically about all the cool things you can do when you have all this data," said Dennis Yu, the "analytics guru" at online advertising company SocialMedia. "But what will a teenager actually pull out a credit card for? And when? At the end of the line, someones got to buy something -- otherwise all that targeted advertisings useless."
One of the ripest commercial opportunities on Facebook could be its news-feed feature. That feature notifies friends of users moods, changes in their relationship status or their whereabouts. Do You Know Who I Am? clipped by: Jaycer17 clippers remarks: Ah but wait, theres more.
With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United agent, gritted his teeth and swore "(Expletive) you."
Without flinching, she smiled and said, "Im sorry, sir, but youll have to stand in line for that, too."
The man retreated as the people in the terminal applauded loudly. Although the flight was canceled and people were late, they were no longer angry at United.
During the final days at Denvers old Stapleton airport, a crowded United flight was canceled. A single agent was rebooking a long line of inconvenienced travelers. Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket down on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS." The agent replied, "Im sorry sir. Ill be happy to try to help you, but Ive got to help these folks first, and Im sure well be able to work something out." The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "Do you have any idea who I am?" Without hesitating, the gate agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone. "May I have your attention please?" she began, her voice bellowing throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at the gate WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come to gate 17."

Wonderful dolphins clipped by: Lifestar clippers remarks: Thought Id clip this, just to illustrate the interaction between dolphins and human beings, but from the dolphins perspective. My previous clip was about japanese fishermen and their slaughtering of the same species.
Dolphins save surfer from becoming shark?s bait A pod of bottlenose dolphins helped protect the severely injured boarder
Surfer Todd Endris needed a miracle. The shark ? a monster great white that came out of nowhere ? had hit him three times, peeling the skin off his back and mauling his right leg to the bone. That?s when a pod of bottlenose dolphins intervened, forming a protective ring around Endris, allowing him to get to shore, where quick first aid provided by a friend saved his life.
?[It] came out of nowhere. There?s no warning at all.
Maybe I saw him a quarter second before it hit me. But no warning. It was just a giant shark,? Endris said. ?It just shows you what a perfect predator they really are.?
Our finned friends No one knows why dolphins protect humans, but stories of the marine mammals rescuing humans go back to ancient Greece, according to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

Girl, 13, gets detention for hugging two friends clipped by: BobbyDelray clippers remarks: This is "make love not war (2)".
Two hugs equals two days of detention for 13-year-old Megan Coulter.
The eighth-grader was punished for violating a school policy banning public displays of affection when she hugged two friends Friday.
?I feel it is crazy,? said Megan, who was to serve her second detention Tuesday after classes at Mascoutah Middle School.
?It?s hilarious to the point of ridicule,? Coulter said. ?I?m still dumbfounded that she?s having to do this.?
District Superintendent Sam McGowen said that he thinks the penalty is fair and that administrators in the school east of St. Louis were following policy in the student handbook.
It states: ?Displays of affection should not occur on the school campus at any time. It is in poor taste, reflects poor judgment, and brings discredit to the school and to the persons involved.?
?I?m just hoping the school board will open their eyes and just realize that maybe they shouldn?t be punishing us for hugs,? Megan said.

Disguise Your Browser as a Google Bot and Get Free Access to Pay Sites clipped by: travislaborde clippers remarks: LOL!
Did you know that most registration sites give Google VIP access to their restricted content? Reason being, these sites want their content indexed in Googles vast search database to attract and receive more hits. Why should Google be the only one to get this VIP treatment? Here is how, using your existing browser, that you can receive similar treatment.
First you have to trick the website that you are visiting that you are actually a Google bot. To do that you need to modify your browsers ?User Agent.? If you use FireFox download User Agent Switcher (UAS) to start the process.
Then you need to alter the UAS settings (Tools - User Agent Switcher - Options - Options - User Agents - Add) to the following:
Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)
Simple as that! Now you should be able to access forums and news sites that previously required registrations.

Rosie signs on as co-host of OReilly Factor clipped by: kkcapricorn clippers remarks: This is one of the funniest pieces Ive read in a while.
OReillys once popular "OReilly Factor" has been suffering from anemic ratings for the past few years, and Fox looks to be attempting to revive the floundering program.
The new show, reportedly premiering sometime over the Christmas holidays, will be revamped and renamed "The OReilly/ODonnell Factor". A spokesperson for the Fox network states that they are looking to breathe new life into their trademark claim of "fair and balanced" with the addition of Ms. ODonnell alongside OReilly.
"Were all professionals here," stated a defensive OReilly. "Im looking forward to working with Rosie. I dont envision things getting out of hand, because I now know where she lives
I truly appreciate a full figured woman
I look forward to trading some very sensual falafel recipes in sort of a "get to know you" kind of way.
"Hes got some pretty bizarre theories about the real story behind 9/11," stated ODonnell
Ill leave it to the American public to decide for themselves who yells "shut up!" better."

Homeless Vets on Rise clipped by: BobbyDelray clippers remarks: We should be ashamed of ourselves.
More evidence shows that U.S. soldiers are falling through the cracks when they get back home. Military veterans are also more likely than others to become homeless.
Veterans account for more than 25% of the homeless in the U.S., even though they are less than 10% of the general population, according to a report released today by the non-profit group, the National Alliance to End Homelessness. The figures come from Veterans Affairs and Census Bureau databases.
To stem the tide, the Alliance to End Homelessness suggests making available 20,000 housing vouchers for vets (to help with living costs) plus 5,000 housing units over 5 years.
Post-traumatic stress disorder and brain injuries are two possible factors that contribute to homelessness.

Why Quitting Smoking Is So Difficult clipped by: Mohir
Why Quitting Smoking Is So Difficult
ScienceDaily (Nov. 8, 2007) ? New findings clarify the brain mechanisms that explain many aspects of dependency on nicotine, the addictive substance in tobacco. Among them: Individual differences in brain chemistry can have a profound effect on a persons susceptibility to addiction, and smoking may predispose adolescents to mental disorders in adolescence and adulthood. In addition, researchers have identified a potential neural network that regulates the bodys craving response and have demonstrated how smoking may affect decision-making.
"As the negative health consequences of smoking have become more and more obvious, the majority of smokers have attempted to quit," says Marina Picciotto, PhD, of Yale University. "Unfortunately, people who want to quit often find that they cannot, and recent neuroscience research has identified many of the molecular mechanisms that lead to nicotine addiction.

US quietly garrisons Africa clipped by: masbury clippers remarks: And of course, its about oil. Here we go again.
"With little scrutiny from Democrats in Congress and nary a whimper of protest from the liberal establishment, the United States will soon establish permanent military bases in sub-Saharan Africa," write Glover and Lee in The Nation. "An alarming step forward in the militarization of the African continent, the US Africa Command (Africom) will oversee all US military and security interests throughout the region, excluding Egypt."
Several African countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, and Libya, are opposed to Africom, and late Tuesday, West African military chiefs denounced the US approach to the project.
Africom officials claim the project will strengthen humanitarian and peacekeeping operations and is not about building more US bases. But critics allege that its a move to secure US access to natural resources and counter the growing Chinese presence across the continent. African nations supply the United States with more than 24 percent of its oil

Nuclear Israel Likely to Attack Iran on False Claims clipped by: blueridge clippers remarks: Israel possesses a nuclear arsenal supplied by the U.S.. Iran does not. Israel has attacked Lebanon and Syria. Iran has never attacked anyone. The U.S. has attacked two countries. Iran is developing nuclear power, not nuclear weapons. Iran has a right to self defense. Iran has never threatened to militarily attack Israel, only rejected the political legitimacy of the Zionist state arbitrarily carved out of Palestine by the UN under pressure of WWII. (Erased from a political map, not bombed into annihilation). Yet the corporate media does not want you to know these naked facts, but fully supports the Israeli, neoconservative, Bush-Cheney rhetoric of Iran starting a "nuclear holocaust"--a pack of blatant lies just like WMD in Iraq.
Israel it appears will start this war, and the neocon Bush-Cheney administration wants them to before their term is up. War time always has improved political ratings also and could give the neo-republicans a boost over Ron Paul and the rest.
US fears Israeli strike against Iran over latest nuclear claim
A claim by President Ahmadinejad that Iran has 3,000 working uranium-enriching centrifuges sent a tremor across the world yesterday amid fears that Israel would respond by bombing the country?s nuclear facilities. Military sources in Washington said that the existence of such a large number could be a ?tipping point?, triggering an Israeli air strike. The Pentagon is reluctant to take military action against Iran, but officials say that Israel is a ?different matter?. Amid the international uproar, British MPs who were to have toured the nuclear facility were backing out of their Iran trip.
srael responded by serving notice that it would not tolerate a nuclear Iran.
The US and Western allies believe that Iran is using its civilian nuclear programme as a cover for weapon development. Tehran says that it merely wants to generate electricity.

The Media?s Plan To Ambush Ron Paul
Whatever the plan may be, we should know by now that the media will continue to act as the chief adversary of the American people and the cause of liberty.
But don?t expect the Paul supporters to throw in the towel like the weak-kneed Dean throng. These guys are stubborn and resolute. And they won?t budge on matters of principle. They?re not taken in by the media?s cheesy smear-campaigns and they won?t jump off the bandwagon at the first sign of trouble.
The Paul crowd has some heavy artillery of their own, too ? and they?re wheeling it into place right now. Their ranks are gradually swelling, the money is pouring in, and they are not going to give up their country without a fight.
This election is shaping up to be a clash of ideals between the people who still believe in freedom and those who don?t. It?s going to be hand-to-hand combat and it?ll probably crack the country in two.

Lieberman slams dems on Iraq clipped by: n2sooners
Sen. Joe Lieberman on Thursday painted a dim picture of his party, saying Democrats have given up their moral authority on foreign policy because they are more concerned with opposing Republicans than doing what is right.
For many Democrats, the guiding conviction in foreign policy isnt pacifism or isolationism, it is distrust and disdain of Republicans in general, and President Bush in particular
The Bush administrations post-9/11 ideological conversion confronted Democrats with an awkward choice. Should we welcome the presidents foreign policy flip-flop? Or should Democrats match it with a flip-flop of our own?
Even as evidence has mounted that General Petraeus new counterinsurgency strategy is succeeding, Democrats have remained emotionally invested in a narrative of defeat and retreat in Iraq, reluctant to acknowledge the progress we are now achieving, or even that that progress has enabled us to begin drawing down our troops there

Tiger-surrogate mother clipped by: venushugstress clippers remarks: Let there be peace.
In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth. The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mothers cubs, perhaps she would improve.
Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.

Countries Considering Abandoning the US Dollar clipped by: rj3sp
7 Countries Considering Abandoning the US Dollar (and what it means)
It?s no secret that the dollar is on a downward spiral. Its value is dropping, and the Fed isn?t doing a whole lot to change that. As a result, a number of countries are considering a shift away from the dollar to preserve their assets. These are seven of the countries currently considering a move from the dollar, and how they?ll have an effect on its value and the US economy.
What does this all mean? Countries are growing weary of losing money on the falling dollar. Many of them want to protect their financial interests, and a number of them want to end the US oversight that comes with using the dollar. Although it?s not clear how many of these countries will actually follow through on an abandonment of the dollar, it is clear that its status as a world currency is in trouble.

Crater From 1908 Tunguska Blast Found clipped by: archangel113
"A team of scientists from the Marine Science Institute in Bologna claims to have found the crater left by the aerial blast of a comet or asteroid in 1908 in the Tunguska region of Siberia. The blast flattened 770 square miles (2,000 square kilometers) of forest, but to date no remains or crater have been found. This has left open the question of what kind of object made the impact. The team believes that, contrary to previous studies, nearby Lake Cheko is only one century old and If the body was an asteroid, a surviving fragment may be buried beneath the lake. If it was a comet, its chemical signature should be found in the deepest layers of sediments. The teams findings are based on a 1999 expedition to Tunguska and appeared in the August issue of the journal Terra Nova."
