Ron Pauls $4.2 Million Nov 5th Money Bomb

    Pauls Money-Bomb Throwers

Speculate, theorize, stereotype. Only one thing is clear: the Paulites, the loyal, organized, Web-savvy supporters of Rep. Ron Paul, know how to raise money online, and 37,000 Paulites set a record yesterday by hauling in more than $4.2 million in 24 hours. Thats the most money raised online by a candidate in a single day. A Paulite came up with the fundraising idea, a few more Paulites joined in and set the date for Nov. 5, Guy Fawkes Day, a symbol of rebellion in British history, then the "money bomb" effort spread virally.

"What hes done -- what his supporters have done -- is astonishing," Ed Rollins, who managed Ross Perots campaign in 1992 and served as an adviser to President Reagan, told The Trail. "You cant dismiss his anti-war vote. You cant dismiss the power of one man standing up with a powerful message.

And that grassroots support, especially his popularity online, has been something of a phenomena.

    Heads Up!

clippers remarks: A national television audience watched in horror as the abandoned Bush head gathered momentum, becoming a fearsome snowball of fury that tore through banners and left hundreds of dazed activists and crushed cardboard tanks in its wake. One man -- later identified as Rupert Dorkington of Flemsea -- gamely attempted to stop the head but became lodged in its gigantic caricature ear and his legs became wildly flailing projectiles. As of this morning, the gigantic Bush head was being held in Police custody while officials decide its fate. A Downing Street source speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the Blair government was planning to make an official gift of the head to Texas governor Rick Perry.

London -- A massive antiwar march against visiting US President George W. Bush turned grisly Thursday after demonstrators lost control of a giant papier-mache effigy of the presidents head, setting off a gruesome chain reaction that left Trafalgar Square strewn about with hundreds of dazed peace activists, journalists, and thousands of abandoned, half-burnt swastika-and-stripes flags. Although no fatalities were reported, British public health officials estimated upwards of 1500 protesters were awaiting treatment at local hospitals for minor injuries and mange. The head was not injured.

The diabolical, lawless pantomime head attacked without warning and without a proper United Nations resolution," complained Rowen Coxthorpton of the Chiselhurst Campaign For The Prevention of Global Unpleasantness. "

Thats right, the producers are afraid that characters that have been an American staple for many, many decades and touched the lives of children of many generations

General Pervez Musharraf has cited surging violence in Swat ? including suicide bombings, beheadings and kidnappings ? as a justification for the imposition of emergency rule.

His security forces are battling an Islamist militia led by Maulana Fazlullah, a radical cleric with a flair for theatrics who wants to turn Swat into an Islamic fiefdom.

A Literary Perspective on the Subjective Nature of Memory

Nadas Peter seems like a particularly relevant novelist today, in an era where facts, and even recent history are extraordinarily maliable. The most amazing part is the way in which the "free" press has been not only complacent but complicit in these revisions.

More than any time in the recent passed, these days we need to be reminded that human beings are not inheriently empirical creatures. Emotions and perceptions; desires and frustarations; these are the key architects of our collective memories.

A Writer Who Always Sees History in the Present Tense

From Spain recently came news of a proposal by the government to erase all physical signs of the Franco dictatorship, as if by getting rid of the plaques and statues and street names from the old regime the country could rectify and obliterate a past it has preferred not to linger over.

Americans tend to be amnesiacs. Europeans, however, worry history, and no writer in Europe today has dealt more eloquently with the obligations and moral conundrums of memory, private and collective, than the Hungarian novelist and essayist Peter Nadas. Berlin, it happens, is where he came years ago to work on what turned into ?A Book of Memories,? which, when the Hungarian censors finally consented in 1986 to let it be published, invited comparison to Proust and Thomas Mann, and caused Susan Sontag, after its translation into English 11 years later, to call it ?the greatest novel written in our time, and one of the great books of the century.?

100 Year Plan of Islamic Extremists

clippers remarks: Meanwhile, many of our elected officials foresight is limited to the next election day, much less 100 years.

Islamic extremists have a 100-year plan for world domination, and Americans must be prepared for the long fight, a U.S. Air Force general told East Texans on Monday.

Speaking during a Veterans Day banquet in Big Sandy, Mike McClendon said extremists want to create an economic superpower with the biggest army and strongest currency, and they want half the worlds population to reside in an Islamic state.

They plan to gain control of oil reserves and bankrupt Western countries, and they plan to create safe havens throughout the world, including some in Latin America, he said.

McClendon also reported good news from the war in Iraq. Civilian deaths fell 45 percent in the last year, 62 percent of the population wants a unified Iraq, and 78 percent oppose an Islamic-controlled state, he said.

"The war in Iraq is one of many battles for the hearts and minds of the rest of the world," he said.

The Banquet of Chestnuts, known more properly as the Ballet of Chestnuts, refers to a fête in Rome, and particularly to a supper held in the Papal Palace by Don Cesare Borgia, son of Pope Alexander VI on October 30, 1501.

Fifty prostitutes or courtesans were in attendance for the entertainment of the banquet guests. After the food was eaten, lampstands holding lighted candles were placed on the floor and chestnuts strewn about. The courtesans clothes were auctioned; then they and the prostitutes crawled naked between the candelabras to pick up the chestnuts. Immediately following the spectacle, members of the clergy and other party guests together engaged the prostitutes in sexual activity.

According to William Manchester, "Servants kept score of each mans orgasms, for the pope greatly admired virility and measured a mans machismo by his ejaculative capacity."[2] He also refers to use of sex toys. Burchard, however, makes no reference to this in his account of the banquet.

Computers::How Firewalls Work And Much More

    clipped by: merrie
clippers remarks: Viruses - Probably the most well-known threat is computer viruses. A virus is a small program that can copy itself to other computers. This way it can spread quickly from one system to the next. Viruses range from harmless messages to erasing all of your data.

Spam - Typically harmless but always annoying, spam is the electronic equivalent of junk mail. Spam can be dangerous though. Quite often it contains links to Web sites. Be careful of clicking on these because you may accidentally accept a cookie that provides a backdoor to your computer.

    What It Protects You From

    Remote login

    Application backdoors

    SMTP session hijacking

    Operating system bugs

    Denial of service

    E-mail bombs

    Macros

    Viruses

    Spam

    Redirect bombs

    Source routing

Some of the items in the list above are hard, if not impossible, to filter using a firewall. While some firewalls offer virus protection, it is worth the investment to install anti-virus software on each computer

For most of us, it is probably better to work with the defaults provided by the firewall developer unless there is a specific reason to change it.

One of the best things about a firewall from a security standpoint is that it stops anyone on the outside from logging onto a computer in your private network. While this is a big deal for businesses, most home networks will probably not be threatened in this manner. Still, putting a firewall in place provides some peace of mind.

When included on lists of treats that parents are discouraged or forbidden to send to school ? and when those policies are, say, put to a vote at the P.T.A. ? ?cupcakes are deal breakers,? Crowds line the central London streets, under the flags of Britain and the Commonwealth, to see Queen Elizabeth II, 81, make the short procession from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster in the Irish State Coach, drawn by four white horses and escorted by ranks of cavalry.

In line with tradition, while she headed to Parliament a government official was held "hostage" at Buckingham Palace in order to ensure the sovereigns safe return.

US scientists announced the discovery of a new planet orbiting a star beyond the solar system, raising further hopes that life may one day be found elsewhere in the universe.

Scientists at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena said a fifth planet had been found circling 55 Cancri, a star located 41 light years from Earth in the Cancer constellation.

Geoff Marcy, an astronomer at the University of California, Berkeley, said the discovery showed that other solar systems similar to the one in which Earth is located might be discovered in other reaches of outer space.

"This discovery of the first ever quintuple planetary system has me jumping out of my socks," Mr Marcy told a teleconference call.

"The significance is marvellous. We now know that our sun and its family of planets is not unusual.

"It shows that our Milky Way contains billions of planetary systems ... we strongly suspect that many of these planetary systems harbour Earth-like planets."

DARPAs Urban Challenge ends: six cars cross the line, CMU takes 1st place

DARPAs Urban Challenge has finished, with six of the eleven cars making it across the finishing line. Cars from Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, and Virginia Tech were the "winners," taking less than the six hour maximum to complete the 60 mile course which involved avoiding obstacles and fifty cars with human drivers. The overall winner of the $2 million prize has yet to be announced, although were guessing itll be one of the latter three teams rather than the eight other cars that completed the course. Despite the significant collision potential, there was only one minor fender bender (which didnt even stop the two cars.) Thats a far better showing than the first ever "Desert" Challenge in 2004 where not a single car finished. Since then the number of cars completing has only increased, and with it, the potential for cars that can drive themselves.

New York City is at the center of a phenomenon that researchers call "suicide tourism," according to Newsday.

The newspaper, quoting from research that was presented at a meeting of the American Public Health Association, says nonresidents have accounted for about 10% of the suicides in Manhattan since 1990.

    "The most common methods of suicide for the Manhattan nonresidents were long fall, hanging, overdose, drowning, and firearms;

the most common locations included hotels and commercial buildings, followed by outside locations such as bridges, parks, and streets," the report says.

The researchers say nonresident suicides tended to take place at tourist spots such as the Empire State Building, Times Square and the George Washington Bridge.

"In any instance when someone travels to commit suicide there may be a wish that people will see them and somehow try to stop them," Christine Cione of the Long Island Crisis Center

    How to Eliminate Junk Mail

Everyday when you open your mailbox, a cascade of junk mail -- from credit card offers to catalogs -- likely comes tumbling out. Not only is sorting through all of this unwanted mail a waste of your time, but it can increase your stress levels because, quite simply, it?s frustrating to receive a bunch of mail you didn?t ask for.

Anything you can do to keep your life more simple, and less cluttered, is a positive thing in my opinion, which is why I wanted to share Catalog Choice with you.

Catalog Choice is a free online service that lets you decline paper catalogs that you no longer wish to receive.

You have to fill out an online registration, choose which catalogs you want to opt-out of, and then Catalog Choice will contact the companies to request that your name be removed from their mailing lists.

Over 8 million tons of trees are consumed each year in the production

So by opting out of catalogs you don?t want anyway, you?re easily helping the environment.

    Positive attitude

    clipped by: AutumnSprite

Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results. A positive mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action. Whatever the mind expects, it finds.

Positive and negative thinking are both contagious. All of us affect, in one way or another, the people we meet. This happens instinctively and on a subconscious level, through thoughts and feelings transference and through body language. People sense our aura and are affected by our thoughts. Is it any wonder that we want to be around positive persons and shun negative ones? People are more disposed to help us if we are positive. They dislike and avoid anyone broadcasting negativity.

As the process, known as electroreception, can override the animals other senses, such as taste and smell, the discovery may help to explain sharks preference for bloody victims.

Our thought was: but if we can get the children to learn the real thing then in a few generations the big change will happen. 32 years later the technologies that our research community invented are in general use by more than a billion people, and we have gradually learned how to teach children the real thing. But it looks as though the actual revolution will take longer than our optimism suggested, largely because the commercial and educational interests in the old media and modes of thought have frozen personal computing pretty much at the ?imitation of paper, recordings, film and TV? level.

"32 years ago in 1975 I was one of several lucky Americans who were invited to Pisa to help celebrate 20 years of computer science in Italy. I presented a paper on the first fruits of our attempts to invent personal computing at Xerox PARC. When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you?re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don?t you quit.

Life is queer with it?s twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don?t give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you?re hardest hit,
    It?s when things seem worse,
    That you must not quit.

Relationship marketing builds illusionary loyalty as salespeople capture customers hearts

The battle to win and keep customers in an increasingly competitive and crowded marketplace has become tougher as more companies and products are available to the free world. In response to these competitive pressures, companies are increasing efforts to build customer loyalty --commonly referred to as relationship marketing -- but have these efforts been a waste of marketing dollars, or money well spent?

A team of researchers led by Robert Palmatier, an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Washingtons Michael G. Foster School of Business, has found that the payoff from relationship marketing depends on who owns the customer relationship, the salesperson or the company he or she is employed by.

Archaeologists working near Stonehenge have uncovered what they believe is the largest Neolithic settlement ever discovered in Northern Europe.

Remains of an estimated 300 houses are thought to survive under earthworks 3km (2 miles) from the famous stone rings, and 10 have been excavated so far.

"What is really exciting is realising just how big the village for the Stonehenge builders was," says Professor Mike Parker Pearson of Sheffield University.

Allowing four per house, he estimates there could have been room for more than 2,000 people.

The settlement is buried beneath the bank of Durrington Walls, a great circular ditched enclosure.

The settlement beneath Durrington Walls dates from around the time of the construction of Stonehenges sarsen stones, about 2600 to 2500 BC.

The current excavations at Stonehenge began four years ago and are part of a 10-year project.

Dinosaurs like Velociraptors owe their fearsome reputation to the way they breathed, according to a UK study.

They had one of the most efficient respiratory systems of all animals, similar to that of modern diving birds like penguins, fossil evidence shows.

It fuelled their bodies with oxygen for the task of sprinting after prey, say researchers at Manchester University.

The bipedal meat-eaters, the therapods, had air sacs ventilated by tiny bones that moved the ribcage up and down.

"Finding these structures in modern birds and their extinct dinosaur ancestors suggests that these running dinosaurs had an efficient respiratory system and supports the theory that they were highly active animals that could run relatively quickly when pursuing their prey," said Dr Jonathan Codd, who led the research.

It provides a mechanism for facilitating avian-like breathing in non-avian dinosaurs and it was there long before the evolution of flight occurred

Distant solar system has five planets

There are no doubt smaller planets and moons, in many of the solar systems where large planets have been detected, that will be found as our methods of detection are improved.

The discovery of a fifth planet orbiting a star outside our own solar system has prompted scientists to suggest there may be many solar systems, just like our own, packed with planets.

    55 Cancri with its planets

Four of the five planets that orbit 55 Cancri, a star much like our own. The most recently discovered planet, and the fourth out from the star, looms large in the foreground. The systems three known inner planets can be seen in the background around the glowing star, while its most distant planet is not pictured

the discovery is the first time as many as five planets have been found orbiting a solar system outside our own, says Assistant Professor Debra Fischer, an astronomer at San Francisco State University

Life could conceivably live on the surface of a moon that might be orbiting the new planet. But such a moon would be far too small to detect using current methods

    "The star is

about the same mass and is about the same age as our sun,"

"Its a system that appears to be packed with planets."

    Turkey Not Welcome in Europe

    clipped by: abailart

A growing number of prosecutions against writers and academics is damaging Turkey?s case to become a fully fledged member of the European Union, an annual assessment report said yesterday.

The country has made little progress in the past year and its failure to end torture, improve minority rights or guarantee freedom of expression were all highlighted as significant stumbling blocks to EU membership.

One of the key demands was for the repeal of Article 301 of the Turkish penal code, which makes it a crime to insult Turkish identity. The article has been used to prosecute the Nobel prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk and the murdered journalist Hrant Dink for commenting on the killings of Armenians by Turks in the early 20th century.

?Turkey needs to create the conditions for the predominantly Kurdish population there to enjoy full rights and freedoms.?

When was the last time you called your spouse into the kitchen to make a presentation about the ?challenges to the family going forward?? You haven?t? Of course not, for this nonsense is talked only in the office. These phrases mangle language. Going forward? That would be instead of backwards?

Second, why discuss nasty things clearly when you can make them sound friendly? That is why sacking became redundancy became downsizing became ?rightsizing?. That last one sounds as if employers aim for a Goldilocks-style balance, rather than to cut costs by whacking half the workforce.

when did you last ring the repair man and say you had a challenge with the washing machine? You can get ahead by translating these euphemisms into English and gaining a reputation for ?telling it like it is?.

Rubens was right? Overweight People Live Longer?

clippers remarks: Not dying today basically just means youll die later. (Citation: The Onion, Our Dumb Century: US Mortality Rate Holding Steady at 100%) So I would be really interested in seeing how they crunch the numbers on "Death Rates." How they account for things like age and inevitability. For instance, arent most really old people under-weight? As life goes on, most of the people Ive seen either bloat up (Marlon Brando) or wither away (George Burns) so it would seem unlikely that the people who are at the time in their life where dying is a reality might be merely overweight.

What we need is statistics tracking death rates based on a persons weight at a give age, such as 15, 25 or 45, that way we can see how life-long weight may affect a persons life expectancy.

Seems like this is more skewing of the numbers to try to convince Americans they can have their cake and eat a lot of it too.

On the other hand, it cant hurt to be jolly!
    Clip Source: www.iht.com

About two years ago, a group of U.S. government researchers reported that overweight people have a lower death rate than people who are normal weight, underweight or obese. Now, investigating further, they found out which diseases are more likely to lead to death in each weight group.

Linking, for the first time, causes of death to specific weights, they report that overweight people have a lower death rate because they are much less likely to die from a grab bag of diseases that includes Alzheimers and Parkinsons, infections and lung disease. And that lower risk is not counteracted by increased risks of dying from any other disease, including cancer, diabetes or heart disease.

As a consequence, the group from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute reports, there were more than 100,000 fewer deaths among the overweight in 2004, the most recent year for which data were available, than would have expected if those people had been of normal weight

Some of the best ways to keep from getting or spreading the infection include:

Frequent and thorough hand washing. Experts recommend washing your hands for as long as it takes to slowly recite the alphabet.

Covering cuts and scrapes with a clean bandage.

Do not touch other peoples wounds or bandages.

Indian elephants turn thespians to save wild mates

    clipped by: Deepti
clippers remarks: Villagers are increasingly encroaching on forest land, while elephants are increasingly barging into villages, killing dozens of people each year, often by trampling on them.

The villagers tactics involve building makeshift electric fences from electric pylons around villages, which electrocute elephants on contact. A dozen elephants have been killed in this way in eastern India so far this year, conservationists say

Only about 120,000 square km (46,340 square miles) of Indias landmass -- less than four percent of the total -- is suitable for elephants, according to a survey by the environment ministry last year
    Clip Source: www.reuters.com
A troupe of trained Indian elephants has taken up drama to save their brethren in the wild, performing tear-jerking plays with elaborate death scenes to arouse the sympathy of villagers

The conservation officials behind the performances hope to defuse a low-level war between dwindling numbers of endangered elephants and growing numbers of humans

The play opens with six elephants looking tense after hearing gunfire. One elephant walks up to a prop wire, touches it, and crumples into a heap. This starring role is often played by an especially talented elephant-actor called Mainak

The five elephant friends desperately try to revive their fallen comrade. In the final act, the elephants realize all is lost, salute their dead friend, and walk away. Humans are on hand to narrate the moral of the story

Hundreds of villagers have enjoyed the free, half-hour-long play since the run began last month, Biswas said, although it is too soon to know how much of a difference the play will make

Even as they reveled in newfound freedom compared with the Muslim world, they remained closeted, worried about being ostracized at the mosque or at their local falafel stand.

For gay Muslims, change may come via a nascent body of scholarship in minority Muslim communities where the reassessment of sacred texts used to damn homosexuality is gaining momentum.

?You have these individuals who say that they would blow up a masjid if it was a gay masjid,? he said. Mr. Abdullah and other scholars argue that there is no uncontested record of the Prophet Muhammad addressing homosexuality and that examples of punishment would surely exist had he been hostile.

Early exposure to violent TV promotes aggression in boys

    clipped by: Betty-43
    Clip Source: www.physorg.com
Boys who watch seemingly harmless cartoons or contact sports on TV between the ages of two and five are more likely to be aggressive and disobedient later, a study published Monday showed.

"We found the more violent TV children see as preschoolers, the more likely they are to have anti-social behaviors -- acting aggressively, disobeying, getting in trouble -- at school age," said Dimitri Christakis, a lead author of the study, published in the scientific journal, Pediatrics.

"Cartoons are the main culprit," he told AFP

Most parents consider cartoons not threatening to their children because, after all, theyre not real and theyre just funny. But the truth is that preschool children dont distinguish between fantasy and reality the way older children and adults do. To them its all very real.

Turkey moves to change speech law

Opponents of Article 301 say the law does not allow free speech
The Turkish government says it will change a controversial law restricting freedom of expression.

Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said a new bill would be put before the Turkish parliament in the coming days.

The law, known as Article 301, bans perceived insults to Turkish identity or the countrys institutions.

It has often been invoked by nationalists against those who argue the Ottoman empire committed genocide against Armenians.

"Several drafts have been prepared in line with proposals by civic groups. The cabinet will discuss them at first opportunity, select one and submit it to parliament," Mr Sahin told Anatolia news agency.

He did not give details of how the law would be reformed.

Nobel-winning novelist Orhan Pamuk and Turkish-Armenian writer Hrant Dink were both prosecuted under the law for their comments on the mass killings of Armenians.

    Is Pornography Really Harmful?

    20071107story

Pornography is a mirror that shows us how men see women, writes Robert Jensen in his latest book, Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity. And with mainstream porn becoming increasingly degrading and violent toward women, looking into that mirror can be unsettling.

Thats the theme running through Jensens book, which AlterNet excerpted in late September. The excerpt, viewable here, stirred a fiery debate among readers, with dozens of commenters defending pornography as a healthy form of sexual expression and dozens more condemning it as dangerous. For all the discussion, a lot of questions remain: Can men who view violent pornography separate fantasy from reality? Do men who are aroused by this type of porn want to hurt women? What influence does porn have on the people who view it? Under what conditions can it be healthy? Harmful?

In a quest to better understand these issues, AlterNet decided to ask some experts.

Sure, the Internet has been a boon to democracy in all sorts of ways, Sunstein acknowledges -- but if new technology gives us unprecedented access to information, it also gives us more ways to avoid information we dont like. Conservatives are increasingly seeking only conservative views, liberals are seeking only liberal views, and never the twain shall meet.

He uses experiments and statistical analyses to back that up: One study of hyperlinking patterns on the Web shows that political bloggers rarely highlight opposing opinions -- of 1,400 blogs surveyed, 91 percent of links were to like-minded sites.

When it comes to the Internet, we demand the right to reinforce our own beliefs without embracing the responsibility to challenge them.

The empirical finding was that like-minded jurors, when they talk to one another, tend to get more extreme.

Internet enthusiasts really cant even see a problem and cant see the individual and social benefits of being exposed to stuff you didnt choose.

    2-Party system dead in Mississippi?

From the 1900s through World War II, Mississippi remained a one-party state, ruled by the all-white Democratic Party. After the 1948 Democratic National Convention endorsed civil rights planks, Southern Democrats became Dixiecrats, eventually bolting to the Republican Party.

In turn, as the national Democratic Party began to embrace equal rights for minorities and women in the 1960s, many African Americans switched their allegiances from the party of Lincoln to the party of Lyndon Johnson.

Republicans rolled to victory Tuesday in what could signal the virtual end of the two-party system in statewide races, an expert said.

"Were now a one-party state, just like we were a one-party state before," said David Sansing, professor emeritus of history at the University of Mississippi.

Of all the Southern states, Mississippi remains the most Republican, consistently giving the highest percentage to Republican candidates for president.

A federal appeals court has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit nicknamed "Roe v. Wade for Men" filed by a mens rights group on behalf of a man who said he shouldnt have to pay child support for his ex-girlfriends daughter.

A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in a decision released Tuesday, agreed with a lower court judge that Matthew Dubays suit was frivolous

He argued that if a pregnant woman can choose among abortion, adoption or raising a child, a man involved in an unintended pregnancy should have the choice of declining the financial responsibilities of fatherhood

U.S. District Judge David Lawson in Bay City disagreed, rejecting Dubays argument that Michigans paternity law violates the U.S. Constitutions equal protection clause because it didnt extend reproductive rights to men

ourts have ruled in the past that any inequity experienced by men like Dubay is outweighed by societys interest in ensuring that children get financial support from two parents

There is no human-created description of God that is without contradiction. Any minimal definition of God we can conjure up entails multiple infinities, such as omnipotence, omniscience, or eternal existence. However when a being is ?infinite in all directions? the infinitudes cross and begin to contradict each other. The school-yard riddle that asks if God could make a stone so heavy he can?t lift it is just one simple case of how infinite capacity is muddled when one?s infinitudes are pitted against each other.

    Bigbang

But recently a third way of imagining the ground of the being has emerged which is also very appealing to techies.

    Cosmic Gc3 New

    Eyecosmos

This new third way is a type of pantheism. In the orthodox definition of God, God transcends the universe. The universe in this view is a creation issuing from God.

Every description of the universe and its ground of being is rife with contradictions. A world without God, a world of God, and a world which is God are all logically impossible. Pick your impossibility.

There are two types of tinnitus and several suggested causes. For an individual with ringing and ear noises occurring on a daily basis, they are likely suffering from chronic tinnitus.

    ringing in ears

For people with acute tinnitus, they will likely only hear strange noises in the ears and head if there is an underlying cause such as a middle or inner ear infection, or a build-up of wax, both temporary problems causing temporary tinnitus and ears ringing. These conditions are temporary because usually when properly treated the problems disappear.

The friend of the hermit is always the third one: the third one is the float which prevents the conversation of the two from sinking into the depth.

Ah! there are too many depths for all hermits. Therefore, do they long so much for a friend and his height.

Our faith in others betrays that we would rather have faith in ourselves. Our longing for a friend is our betrayer.

One ought still to honor the enemy in ones friend. Can you go near to your friend, and not go over to him?

You would wear no raiment before your friend? It is in honor of your friend that you show yourself to him as you are? But he sends you to the devil for that!

There is comradeship: may there be friendship!

    Thus spoke Zarathustra.

    Hello Kitty Vibrator Reborn

1997 when Sanrio gave a license to Genyo Co. to make a number of different Hello Kitty products.

    one

was a Hello Kitty shoulder massager.

some people decided to use the shoulder massagers to massage other areas besides their shoulders.

    The Hello Kitty shoulder massagers

began to show up in adult movies

also being sold in adult video shops and the sales of the product skyrocketed.

    Sanrio

claimed to be disgusted, especially since the Sanrio name and Hello Kitty character were on it.

    They

contacted Genyo Co. and asked them to stop

Genyo Co. had no intention of letting a hugely profitable product be taken off the shelf

The fight between the two companies continued

    until Genyo Co

    found themselves in tax trouble

    Sanrio

    revoke the license and

took the ?shoulder massagers? off the market.

you can imagine my surprise when I received an email letting me know that they have revived it - selling it for just over $10 (1260 yen) in the Sanrio Japanese online store

Map congressional spending with Google Earth

A new Google Earth layer keeps tabs on political spending by pinpointing where and for what projects U.S. government officials are budgeting funds for across the country:

Members of Congress know where the money is going: now citizens can, too. The Sunlight Foundation today released a Google Earth application that plots the locations for almost 1,500 earmarks in the House Defense Appropriations bill. This graphic illustration of defense earmarks gives anyone with an Internet connection a birds eye view of exactly where Congress is directing federal spending?and the ability to investigate whether the earmarks address pressing needs, favor political contributors or are simply pure pork.

CNET news reports that the maps points, attached to the U.S. House of Representatives defense spending bill is heavy on military tech projects like "ubiquitous RFID chem/bio detection" and "semi-autonomous robotic manipulation and sensing."

This essay, excerpted below, by Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) blogger James Anthony focuses on raids against state licensed medical marijuana cooperatives, but could just as easily be about raids on medical offices of state licensed physicians who issue legal prescriptions for pain medications to people in pain. said about our doctor busts.

The Pain Relief Network sincerely appreciate the input from this law enforcement officer from LEAP and hope this is the end of all the blaming the victim that has been going on.

When courageous and enlightened law enforcement agents themselves speak the truth about aggressive federal police actions targeting innocent patients, physicians, and advocates, it makes for powerful testimony. PRN encourages LEAP members to investigate and write more about the DEA?s reign of terror against people in pain and the doctors who try and relieve their suffering.

As cellphone use has skyrocketed, making it hard to avoid hearing half a conversation in many public places, a small but growing band of rebels is turning to a blunt countermeasure: the cellphone jammer, a gadget that renders nearby mobile devices impotent.

The technology is not new, but overseas exporters of jammers say demand is rising and they are sending hundreds of them a month into the United States ? prompting scrutiny from federal regulators and new concern last week from the cellphone industry. The buyers include owners of cafes and hair salons, hoteliers, public speakers, theater operators, bus drivers and, increasingly, commuters on public transportation.

    Clip Source: wcco.com

Charles and Linda Everson were driving back to their hotel when their minivan was struck by a falling object -- a 600-pound cow.

The Eversons were unhurt but the cow, which had fallen off a cliff, had to be euthanized.

The year-old cow fell about 200 feet from the cliff and landed on the hood of the couples minivan, causing heavy damage.

A Chelan County fire chief, Arnold Baker, said the couple missed being killed by a matter of inches in the accident Sunday on a highway near Manson.

The Eversons, visiting the area from their home in Westland, Mich., to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, were checked at Lake Chelan Community Hospital as a precaution.

Everson, 49, said he didnt see the cow falling and didnt know what happened until afterward.

He said he kept repeating: "I dont believe this. I dont believe this."

    Writer explains the WGA strike

clippers remarks: Here are some more thoughts.
Its very simple: we made an extremely shitty deal years ago on VHS tapes because they said, "Well, its a new technology. Let us pay you 4 cents per tape because manufacturing costs are so high and we dont know if itll even catch on. And then well renegotiate after studying the issue." So we took the deal. And do you think they ever renegotiated?

Not only are they refusing to renegotiate DVDs (claiming giving us 8 cents per DVD instead of 4 would make them too sad), theyre trying to jam all "new media" like streaming and digital downloads under that same equation; they have actually refused "for overriding business reasons" to negotiate at all over new media. (Streaming video would be completely unpaid, even if its ad-supported because they claim all streaming video EVEN IF THEY SHOW THE EPISODE OR FEATURE FILM IN ITS ENTIRETY is "promotional?. Seriously.)

Iran: We have 3,000 centrifuges working at enrichment plant

Iran has achieved a landmark, with 3,000 centrifuges fully working in its controversial uranium enrichment program, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Wednesday.

"We have now reached 3,000 machines," Ahmadinejad told thousands of Iranians gathered in Birjand, in eastern Iran, in a show of defiance of international demands to halt the program believed to be masking the countrys nuclear arms efforts.

The Security Council has demanded that Tehran suspend uranium enrichment -a potential pathway both to generating nuclear power and creating the fissile core of warheads.

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild ?scientific? scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue

Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you ?believe in.? It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won?t believe a me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.
